Infinitive HERNANDEZ.

Infinity is the basic form of a verb in English, when we talk

about infinity we usually refer to the "present infinitive",
which is the most used. However, there are four other

verbal forms composed with infinites in English: the "perfect
infinitive", the "perfect Continuous infinitive", the
"Continuous infinitive".

Gerunds Present Continuous y Gerunds

infinitive

The use of the infinitive (I would like to travel) and the

gerund (I like travelling), in English is a common source of
problems among students. Probably because the two
structures are translated into Spanish with the same Present Continuous
structure (I would like to travel / I like to travel), therefore
the natural tendency of students is to over-use the infinitive
Uses:
in English. The other problem is that the use of one form or
another depends to a large extent on the type of verb they
accompany (would like + infinitive; like + gerund) and for
that there is a list of verbs that require an infinitive and
verbs that demand an infinitive and verbs that demand a
gerund that has to be memorized.
