THE WAY OF THE FIGHTER
1987...
Open this gate, tear down this wall.
Under a growing wave of pressure, both external
and internal, the Soviet Union teeters on the
brink of collapse. As the politicians battle, the
Комитéт госудáрственной безопáсности
(Committee for State Security, or KGB) steps into
the vacuum. Determined to stabilize the Soviet
Union, they pursue their goal with ruthlessness
and single-minded ferocity. Dissidents are
imprisoned and assassinated in an attempt
to quell the political upheaval. Despite their
best attempts, the push towards liberalization
continues. In response, the voices of revolution
grow louder and more insistent. Widespread
riots and demonstrations sweep the Soviet
Union. Desperate to contain the growing chaos,
the KGB unleashes their latest technological
marvel, the ND-2000 Security Mecha, to pacify
the populace. The anarchy only grows more
widespread as rebellion begins throughout the
entire Soviet Bloc.
Faced with their final breath, the KGB authorizes
the Красная звезда комитет Тайн (Red Star
Committee of Mysteries, or K3KT) to restore
order by any means necessary. Long only a
rumor whispered in conspiracist circles and
darknet chat rooms, K3KT leads the Soviet
research in psychic, paranormal, and supranormal
phenomenon. While K3KT’s new mission and
very existence remain secret, the immediate
impact is undeniable. Within weeks, dissidents
and rebellion leaders display a sudden change
of heart, throwing their full backing behind a
restored and further strengthened Soviet Union.
The final blow to the cause comes when the
Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme
Soviet reverses his stance and delivers the
Brandenburger Tor speech, in which he offers
a scathing indictment of western philosophy
and promises to restore the Soviet Union to
its former glory and beyond. The western
world reels at the shock of the Chairman’s
sudden reversal, and begins a global surge in
militarization. The Doomsday Clock moves to
two minutes to midnight.
What will become of us, when they step
out into the light?
Armed with new knowledge of those she seeks,
Severina begins her search anew, focusing
upon the obscure training halls, dojos, places
of worship, and spiritual landmarks of the
world. With the assistance of Victoria’s expert
intelligence, Severina discovers her first
target, a former savate boxer, in the ghettos of
Marseilles, France. Eager to add his strength to
K3KT, Severina finds the man steadfast in his
refusal to submit to her shadow organization,
resisting even her staggering psychic abilities of
persuasion. In the resulting struggle, the man is
killed and Severina is denied her prize.
Not anticipating the fierce resistance she
encounters or the ensuing devastation caused
by their combat, the murder is witnessed by
multiple credible sources. While K3KT enacts
containment procedures to minimize the fallout,
the damage is done. Severina and the existence
of supranormal beings of immense power are
officially revealed to the world.
Rather than take shelter from the coming storm,
Severina steps willingly into its embrace. The
Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet
declares that the Soviet Union’s right to rule is
made manifest by Severina and K3KT’s abilities.
Severina stands proudly at his side in bold
defiance to the rest of the world.
The path is fraught with adversity—
and triumph, if you can seize it.
With the Soviet Union’s stark declaration of
manifest destiny, a new type of arms race erupts.
Throughout the free world, governments and
organizations establish tournaments to train and
seek supranormal humans from within their own
population. Some step forward willingly, stung
by the Soviets’ words and ready to deny them
at all costs. Some come forward for glory and to
prove their skills against one who is truly worthy.
Still others remain hidden, waging a secret war
all their own against Severina and K3KT.
The tournaments prove undeniably popular,
and soon organizations, legitimate and criminal
alike, begin hosting tournaments of their own;
some to seek new fighters for their cause,
others to line their pockets. The majority of the
tournaments never encounter a true fighter of
supranormal ability, no matter how skilled the
combatants. Those of true ability are drawn to
a few small tournaments which are truly worthy
of them. These tournaments are talked of only
in low whispers, and are the stuff of legend: The
Festival of Five Winds, The Queen’s Sword, Tyr’s
Isle, Sphinx Arena, The Frozen Gulag, among
others. The fighters drawn to these tournaments
are paragons of humanity; warriors without peer
who proudly walk the Way of the Fighter!
 THE FIVE STYLES
From the cages and pits of underground rings, to stadium filled national competitions and privately
sanctioned events, fighting tournaments have become a popular pastime in all parts the globe. Challengers
from all over take part in these bouts and demonstrate their close-combat prowess by executing an impressive
array of attacks and maneuvers from various melee techniques. Each technique belongs to one of five styles:
Hard, Soft, Wrestle, Chi, or Fluid. All fighters associate each of these five styles with an Animal.

The Hard style centers around pressure and strong physical attacks. Fighters practice the style under the
school of the Tiger, known for its strength and courage. Masters of the hard style trade caution and planning,
for power and massive damage.

The Soft style strings together a rapid succession of attacks, and generates precise strikes with blinding speed.
Fighters practice the style under the school of the Crane, known for its grace, reflexes, and agility. Masters of the soft
style fool slower opponents with deadly attacks that rely on muscle memory and amazing hand-eye coordination.

The Wrestle style comprises of powerful grappling maneuvers. Fighters practice the style under the school of
the Bear, known for its immense stature and endurance. Masters of the wrestle style endure the pain brought
about by their opponent’s onslaught, while closing in for overpowering throws and debilitating takedowns.

The Chi style relies on inner spiritual energies to enhance supranormal power and even create energy
projectiles. Fighters practice the style under the school of the Dragon, known for its mystical nature and
inner focus. Masters of the chi style reduce the options available to their opponent with long range projectile
attacks, and use their power to grant themselves a unique edge.

The Fluid style implements tactics which make use of the surrounding environment to maintain distance, gain
momentum, or launch surprise attacks. Fighters practice the style under the school of the Snake, known for its
cunning and mobility. Masters of the style remain in constant motion, becoming unpredictable, but ready to
strike at a moment’s notice with grave prejudice.

Supranormal fighters combine the styles that they have mastered with the gifts and powers that they have
inherited, creating their own unique form of fighting. Each fighter’s entry on the following pages lists a set
of technique packs that can be combined for a quick pre-built deck. Players are, however, encouraged to
experiment with custom builds once they are comfortable with a fighter’s pre-built deck. This is done by
swapping out a technique pack, or two, with others from the same style.

A sickly and unassuming teenager, Alberdus was

ashamed of his fragility. Following the ancient
Spartan tradition, he lost himself in Mount
Taygetus in an attempt to end his life. On the
verge of death, he encountered a strange hermit
that provided him succor in exchange for intense
physical work. For one month, the hermit forced
Alberdus to hunt for food, cook, fell trees and
build a small hut for himself. As Alberdus gradually
grew healthier and stronger, he eventually
understood that the hermit was not using him for
labor, but that he was actually strengthening him
as a warrior. Several years passed, each finding
Alberdus more muscular, powerful, and tactical
as he trained in Pankration, the hand-to-hand
fighting style from ancient Greece. After the many
years with the hermit, he suddenly disappeared
leaving behind a final parting gift for Alberdus: a
lion pelt imbued with the immense strength of

An erudite pupil, Jun naturally grasped soft style
and over the years she mastered skills in agility,

become more powerful. Before Hiroshi could instill
this knowledge, he told both his grandchildren
he needed to enter a long state of mediation

the next morning to begin advanced training,
she entered the dojo only to find traces of blood;
Hiroshi was nowhere to be found. Concerned that
her grandfather might be injured or dead, she and
her brother vowed to find him or the one who

Kasi grew up practicing the healing properties
of Voodoo throughout all of Jamaica. Schooled
in the Voodoo magics by her grandmother and
town priestess, Eyana, she learned to cure the
sick and ward off evil for many people. When her
grandmother passed away, Kasi inherited her
position as the village priestess and was set to
continue the role undisturbed until she stumbled
upon a set of books in her grandmother’s home.
Curious, Kasi explored their contents and found a
note from her grandmother that stated, “Should
darkness come, so you should know darkness.”
From then, Kasi explored their contents and
learned the arcane knowledge contained within
each. Practicing the incantations and mastering
them over a series of years, she became adept
in manipulating her body movements, hiding
in shadow, foreseeing the actions of others, and
“YOU’LL SOON SURRENDER various curses. Though she could not foresee
the darkness that her grandmother mysteriously
EVERYTHING TO ME!” noted, she hoped that her devotion to the art
would help her protect herself and her people.
