Introduction
This manual provides the reader with a detailed product overview, feature description, configuration
instructions and installation guidelines for the Nortech PDx8x Inductive Loop Parking detector.
1.1 Description
The 8 series Parking Detector is Nortech’s new flagship Parking Vehicle Detector which addresses the
market’s need for a slimline, advanced vehicle detection solution. Our Automatic Frequency Selection
(AFS) algorithms introduced in the 7 series detectors have been refined and optimised resulting in
simplified setup and installation of complex multi-lane access control sites. The new wireless diagnostic
unit, the DU800, supported by the 8 series detectors allows for detector configuration and installation
feedback on any iOS or Android device. This eliminates the need to adjust any mechanical interfaces once
the unit has been installed.
The 8 series comes with the default settings to match the performance of the legacy 3-series detector.
The new slimline, DIN Rail mount housing allows for more physical connections than the traditional relay
base and Nortech’s innovative modular design allows for the expansion of detection solutions, including
but not limited to: Relay expansion units, channel expansion units, and communications interfaces.
2.1 Applications
• Parking barrier control
• Safety loop
• Arming control
• Motorised gates and doors
• Industrial control systems
• To arm card readers and ticket dispensers
• As a barrier/gate/door closing detector
• As a barrier/gate/door opening detector
• To generate pulses for vehicle counting
• As a logic unit to determine the direction of traffic flow
2.2 Features
The PDx8x is the most slimline of the Nortech parking detectors facilitating
Slimline form installation in even the most physically constrained environments. Maximum outer
factor dimensions are 94mm x 94mm x 22.5mm
The innovative expansion port on the PDx8x allows for the addition of modules to
Expandable the system. These modules include but are not limited to extra relay/opto outputs,
extra detection channels and communication modules.
The 8 series feature an all-new Synchronization and Expansion bus. This allows all
the detectors on the bus to be channel-mux synchronized to reduce crosstalk and
Sync Bus
noise from adjacent loops. The Synchronization bus auto-establishes as soon as more
than one detector is connected.
Automatic Frequency Selection (AFS) automatically examines the detector
environment and sets the optimal operating frequency to ensure minimal
AFS interference and maximum reliability, significantly decreasing installation time.
Frequency can also be manually set via wireless configuration channel.
In the event of a power failure, the PDx8x will retain the presence of the vehicle
when power is restored. The detector is also able to determine if a vehicle has driven
PowerFail onto the loop while the power is off and detect it immediately when the power
Memory returns. This is most useful in applications where damage to vehicles could occur
(E.g. Rising Bollards). The PowerFail memory is infinite.
Comprehensive, wireless diagnostics allow for accurate diagnosis of loop and
Diagnostics installation problems as well as configuration adjustments to eliminate issues. This
is made possible via Nortech’s DU800 and Integr8 App.

Supply Supply
Contrary to Nortech’s traditional detectors, the 8 series configuration is undertaken via a wireless
connection between a mobile device and the detector, rather than via DIP switches.
To facilitate this connection, a DU800 diagnostic unit, Integr8 App and Android or iOS mobile device are
required. The Integr8 App is available on both Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
Tap on the ‘Scan Current Network’ button. The App will search for the DU800 on the network and once
found, an entry will be created in the ‘Device Scan Result’ List. Tap on the entry to connect to the detector.
