ASSESSMENT BRIEF AND FEEDBACK

 The module 100% coursework assessed.

 The coursework is designed to assess student’s ability to interpret and apply key HRM concepts
and theories to organisations. Students must identify and evaluate approaches to people
management, taking into consideration their learning throughout the module as well as
independent research.

Individual Assignment (70%)

Section 1 Assignment

The assignment will constitute a 2000 word written submission offering critical analysis and
evaluation in section 1.
Please note, your assignment must demonstrate a clear emphasis on international organisations
and/or an international context. This includes not only international research but also examples
drawn from an international context.

Challenges in the management and leadership of international organisations

 Students are asked to identify issues, challenges, perspectives and best practice initiatives in
managing and leading people in international organisations.
 Students will be expected to conduct a literature review and analysis around the chosen
topic and display clear evidence of extensive research into organisation case examples.
 It is expected that in completing the assignment students will make extensive reference to
the relevant literature; any references cited must be included in a reference list at the end of
the assignment, and the quality reading material will be evaluated in the assessment of the
assignment.
 It is also expected that students will make extensive use of internet sources in researching
information on organisation case examples and the business environment.

Standard Assessment Guidance


The following guidance is applicable to all coursework items.
1) Marks are awarded for content, quality of discussion and effective use of referencing. Higher
marks will also be awarded to students who provide strong evidence of analysis and critical
evaluation of the various concepts and techniques identified and their application to real world
situations.
2) Work should include references to journal articles and other relevant publications, and should
be properly laid out using the UUBS Harvard system of referencing. See the reading list in this
module handbook to see how references should be cited. More detailed guidance is available in
the ‘Guide to Referencing in the Harvard Style’. We encourage you to avail of the Academic
Support via the Library’s Support Service, further details in the Library Support Services Section.

3) Marks will be deducted for incomplete or inaccurate referencing.

4) Students may make multiple submissions in advance of the due date to receive feedback via
Turnitin on their academic writing style (similarity score) and any potential plagiarism issues. A
similarity score of less than 20% is acceptable.

5) Students must adhere to the word limit policy so as to avoid penalties as follows:
+10% - no penalty
+>10% - 20% - 5% penalty
+>20% - 30% - 10% penalty
+>30% - 40% - 15% penalty
+>40% - 50% - 20% penalty
+>50% - maximum mark of 40% UG

Section 2 Assignment - Reflective Writing Task (30%)

Students will write up a 1000 word reflection about their individual development to date with a clear
focus on:

1. Change that has taken place in work and/or university that has impacted you;
2. An honest reflection of how you responded to this change, identifying positive and negative
responses, where applicable;
3. Consideration of your response, what you have learned and whether/how you might respond
differently when confronted by change again;
4. Future ideas and plans for your further personal and professional development
The objective of this reflective writing process is to consider the part that reflection plays in learning,
understanding, and the importance of reflection to professionals. Students are aiming to achieve
levels of reflection so as to produce greater depths of understanding.
