A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics VI

I. Objectives
At the end of the session, students should be able to:

a) identify the appropriate metric unit of measurement in length;

b) convert metric unit of measurement in length from one unit to another; and

c) show determination and patience in learning mathematics

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic : Conversion of Metric System in the Measures of Length

B. Reference : Grade 6 Learner’s Material pp. 91-98 , e-Math Grade7 pp. 85-87

C. Materials : Laptop, Projector, Speaker, Visual Aids, PowerPoint Presentation

III.Procedures:
Teacher's Activity Students Activity

A.Prayer

Hearty! kindly lead the prayer. Dear God, Add our patience…

B. Greetings

Good morning class! Good morning ! Ma'am It is nice to see you.

It is nice to see you too!

Take your seats, and kindly pick up all

the pieces of paper under your chair.

C. Checking of Attendance

Let us see how many are you today.

Start counting from the first row to the (The students will start counting until the last
last row. number has been reached.)

It seems that we have a perfect 10 is last number ma'am

attendance today. Keep it up!

D.Review

Let us have a recall of the topics that we had Ma'am basic ideas of sets, the set ofreal numbers,
discussed yesterday? properties of realnumbers, set of integers, square
rootsand scientific notation.

That's right! We focused on number sense

because numbers are part of humanlife and
Mathematics involves counting and
measurements.

E.Motivation

Now, let us start our game, I will show you a

jumbled word and you will arrange it to find the
magic words. Those who can get the correct
answer in the fastest time will get a point. Then,
those who will get the highest points will be the
winner and will get a reward.

Ready Class?
Yes ma'am
1. E M E T R
METER
2.M I M T I E R L E L
MILLIMETER
3.N E C E M E T I R T
CENTIMETER
4.I L M E K O T E R
KILOMETER
5.O N V R S I C E O N
CONVERSION

F. Lesson Proper

Based on your answers in our game, what do you

think is our lesson today? Ma'am! it is Metric System of Measurement
That is right! And we will convert Metric System
for the measures of length.

Now, what words come first into your mind when I am reminded of Meter, Centimeter,Kilometer,
you hear the word Metric System? etc.

Good answers!

What is Metric System? Metric System is a decimal system of weights and

measures based on the meter and on the kilogram.

The following are the metric units of length.

Please read them.

(The student reads the metric units of length.)
Ma'am! meter is the basic unit of length for metric
measure
Class, do you know what is the basic unit of length
for metric measure is?

Yes,precisely correct !

For example:

1. Convert 2 km to m

Solution: Using the metric converter ( moving to

the right) multiply by a power of 10

2 km x 1000 = 2000 m
Word Symbol Meaning

Kilometer Km 1000 meters The solution is

Example 2
hectometer hm 100 meters 1.5 hm x 1000 = 1,500 cm
How about, 1.5 hm converted to cm?
dekameter dam 10 meters

meter m 1 meter
Very good!
decimeter dm 0.1 meter Ma'am, we converted larger unit to a smaller unit
Now , what can you say about the unit that we
centimeter
converted in ourcm
examples? 0.01 meter
Ma'am, we performed multiplication
Thatmillimeter
is correct. mm 0.001 meter

And what operation did we perform? To convert a larger unit to a smaller unit , use the
metric converter and multiply by the power of 10.
So , can you give me now the rule in converting
larger unit to smaller unit.

Very good!
Yes, ma'am
Remember that we can convert a larger unit to a
smaller unit by using metric converter and
multiplying by the power of 10.

Did you follow, class?

Answer this example?

Example 3. Convert 500 cm to m

Solution: Using the metric converter ( moving to

the left ) divide by a power of 10 , we’ll have

500 cm 100m = 5m

Ma'am, here is the solution

Let us take another one :
3.15 mm 1000 = 0.00315 m
Example 4 :
We converted smaller to larger unit , ma'am
3.15 mm to m Who wants to answer on the
board?
We use division, ma'am!

Correct!

Now what have you observed about the unit that

we converted here? And what operation did we To convert a smaller unit to a larger unit , use the
perform when changing / converting smaller unit metric converter and divide by the power of 10.
to a larger unit?

Very Good!

Can you give me now the rule in converting

smaller unit to a larger unit?

Yes, Correct. In converting smaller unit to a larger

unit , you have to use the metric converter and
divide by the power of 10

G. Application

Let us apply what we have just discussed by using

fortune of wheel.(The teacher will show the
fortune of wheel to get the given one by one to 1. 7 m = 700 cm
convert metric unit of measurement in
length.)Convert each to the indicated unit. 2. 1.2 mm = 0.012 dm

3. 5.3 km = 5300m

1. 7 m = _____ cm 4. 300 dam = 3 or 3.00 km

5. 52.48 m =o.5248 hm
2. 1.2 mm = ____ dm

3. 5.3 km = _____ m

4. 300 dam = _____ km

5. 52.48 m = ______ hm
Ma'am, to convert a larger unit to a smaller unit ,
use the metric converter and multiply by the power
H. Generalization of 10.

How do you convert metric unit of measurement Ma'am,To convert a smaller unit to a larger unit ,
in length, larger unit to smaller unit? use the metric converter and divide by the power
of 10.

How about converting smaller unit to larger unit?

IV. Evaluation
1. 9 m = 9000 mm
Convert each to the indicated unit.
2. 2000 cm = 20 m
1. 9 m = ______ mm
3. 5.7 dam = 0.057 km
2. 2000 cm = _____ m
4. 16.8 km = 1680000 cm
3. 5.7 dam = _____ km
5. 53000 cm = 0.5300 hm
4. 16.8 km = _____ cm

5. 53000 cm = ____ hm
V. Assignment
Complete the table:

Given hm dm cm. mm

1.1.67km

2.8.3 dam

3.400
