    WORK IMMERSION_WEEK-4

    TASK 1

    Directions: Identify whether the statement is true or

    false. Write WORK if it is true and IMMERSION if it is

    false.

    __ WORK__ 1. Confidentiality means not leaving your

    observation notes lying around.

    __ IMMERSION__ 2. If the police ask you, you must

    show them any records you have?

    __ IMMERSION__ 3. Family members have an

    automatic right to see the client’s records.

    __ IMMERSION__ 4. You can store records in the

    drawer of your desk if the room is locked at night.

    Directions: Highlight the importance of

    confidentiality by answering each questions in three

    to five sentence.

    1. Why do you think that confidentiality is so

    important in the client/worker relationship?

    Answer: Confidentiality is important for several

    reasons. One of the most important elements of

    confidentiality is that it helps to build and develop

    trust. It potentially allows for the free flow of

    information between the client and worker and

    acknowledges that a client’s personal life and all

    the issues and problems that they have belong to

    them.

    TASK 2

    2. It’s Friday. You are a worker at a youth drop-in

    centre and a journalist calls at 2 pm and asks if

    they can photograph the youth group tonight so it

    can be used in Saturday’s paper. You are keen to

    get publicity but you need to think about the rights

    of your clients in this situation. The coordinator is

    away.

    What do you do?

    Answer: I can't agree to the photograph without

    consulting the young people and their

    parents/carers (particularly if they are under 16

    years). In making the decision, the young

    people/carers would need to be aware of any

    repercussions for them, such as loss of privacy if

    they decide to be photographed.

    TASK 2

    I would need to consult other staff (if the

    coordinator is away), attempt to contact at least a

    number of young people/carers to seek permission

    before committing to the photo and make sure I

    have acted within any guidelines outlined in the

    confidentiality policy and procedure in relation to

    such requests.
