The Family Picnic

DIRECTIONS: Read the story. Then put the events of the story in the correct
sequence.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. The Pattersons were all sitting around the table,
having their breakfast, when Mr. Patterson suggested that they go on a family picnic.
“Yes!” the children cried. Mrs. Patterson smiled. She knew Mr. Patterson loved picnics.
First, Mrs. Patterson packed their lunch in a big picnic basket. Then she packed a
blanket. Next, she asked John and Emily to gather together some outdoor toys. Mr.
Patterson packed everything into the car, and off they went!
They drove to a nearby park. Mrs. Patterson and the children went on ahead to find
the perfect spot, while Mr. Patterson unloaded the car. By the time he joined them with
the basket, the blanket, and the toys, John and Emily were already playing tag with
some other children. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson sat on the blanket, playing cards and
enjoying the sun. Then Mr. Patterson took a nap.
At lunch time, Mrs. Patterson unpacked the picnic basket. She called the children.
Then she woke up Mr. Patterson.
“My favorite kind of sandwiches!” Mr. Patterson said, smacking his lips.
After lunch Mr. Patterson and Emily joined another family in a game of soccer, while
Mrs. Patterson and John took a nap. When John woke up, he and Emily played frisbee.
