ACTIVITY 10

From the heritage of Philippines, I would chose Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras
in Ifugao Province

My narrative is about sharing a breathtaking view of the Banaue Rice Terraces.

The Hagdan- Hagdang Palayan, or Banaue Rice Terraces, are unquestionably a source of pride
not just for the Ifugaos but also for Filipinos all over the world. Although certain journeys to
Banaue can be planned through travel groups or agencies (which is more convenient), the
majority of passengers travel to Banaue by bus, which takes around 8-9 hours through the North
Luzon Expressway.

The walking tour will begin at 5 a.m., and I will tell them about how the Banaue Rice Terraces
are among the top UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Philippines, along with the Cordillera
Rice Terraces. As a result, the Philippine Cordilleras' Rice Terraces are a significant aspect of
Philippine culture and identity.

I'll tell you some stories that go beyond what they know. Because of its splendor, the
international film industry has taken note, making it the scene for the blockbuster Marvel film
Avengers: Infinity War.

To make them not feel boring I will tell the something fact's that they probably Didn’t Know
(But They Should!) About the Banaue Rice Terraces. During the Spanish Regime, the Spaniards
tried to establish garrison at Ducligan, which became the seat of the Spanish Government, but
this did not last long because of the hostility of the people, for which reason they left the garrison
and went to Mayoyao. In 1901, the American Government was established in Banaue headed by
Capt.Banaue is politically subdivided into 18 barangays, namely: Amganad, Anaba, Balawis,
Banao, Bangaan, Batad, Bocos, Cambulo, Ducligan, Gohang, Kinakin, Poblacion, Poitan, Pula,
San Fernando, Tam-an, Viewpoint, and Uhaj. The word imbayah itself comes from the Ifugao
word bayah, or rice wine, which signifies nobility and high stature in the community.During the
festival, rice wine from antique Chinese jars overflows, and a banquet is arranged for the mortals
and the gods. Although collectively known as Banaue Rice Terraces, it actually encompasses six
rice terraces namely Batad, Bangaan, Hapao, Hungdungan, Nungulunan, and Bacung.

The tour won’t be easy. Sure there are vans and other transportation services available to tour
you around but when you’re already going to the rice terraces, expect a lot of hiking trips, some
are easy and some are challenging but definitely worth the sweat and effort! While the stunning
attraction covers an extensive area, the inscribed property consists of five clusters of the most
intact and impressive rice terraces, located in four municipalities. First is the Nagacadan terraces
in Kiangan, a rice terrace cluster manifested in two distinct ascending rows of terraces bisected
by a river;

As the tour ended, I want them to know and understand that Rice Terraces is worthy to be in top
of the list They were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995, the first-ever
property to be included in the cultural landscape category of the World Heritage List. The Ifugao
Rice Terraces reach a higher altitude and were built on steeper slopes than many other terraces.
The Ifugao complex of stone or mud walls and the careful carving of the natural contours of hills
and mountains to make terraced pond fields, coupled with the development of intricate irrigation
systems, harvesting water from the forests of the mountain tops, and an elaborate farming
system. The Ifugao Rice Terraces illustrate the remarkable ability of human culture to adapt to
new social and climate pressures as well as to implement and develop new ideas and
technologies.Maintenance of the living rice terraces reflects a primarily cooperative approach of
the whole community which is based on detailed knowledge of the rich diversity of biological
resources existing in the Ifugao agro-ecosystem, a finely tuned annual system respecting lunar
cycles, zoning and planning, extensive soil conservation, and mastery of a complex pest control
regime based on the processing of a variety of herbs, accompanied by religious rituals.
