TYPES OF BUILDINGS

BURJ KHALIFA
It is a skyscraper located in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
At 828 meters high, it is the tallest structure on record in
history.

The base of the building has a core and three

lateral sections that protrude from it. These wings or side
sections each rise to a different height and make the
structure of the building narrower. The height of each
wing section forms a left-hand spiral staircase that
surrounds the building and serves to counter high winds
and Dubai's many sandstorms. The effectiveness of this
design was corroborated by more than 40 tests in a wind
tunnel, which supported its adequate operation.

From the last mechanical level of the Burj Khalifa, located

more than 500 m high, the wings end and only the core
of the building remains, which is subdivided until it ends in
an antenna.

ONE THOUSAND MUSEUM

It is a residential skyscraper, the exotic
design of the building is characterized by
a curved exoskeleton that partially
covers the balconies5 and that also has
a structural purpose, since it allows the
interior space to have fewer pillars.6 To
meet the architect's demands for softness
and finished, the columns were lined with
concrete reinforced with fiberglass. The
effect of the design and its height on the
load caused by the winds is part of the
reason why the foundations had to be so
deep.7 It is a luxury residential building
that contains some eighty-four large
houses whose cost per square meter is
about twice the cost of properties in
nearby residential towers, with many
amenities including a rooftop helipad.
TURNING TORSO
Turning Torso is a residential neo-
futurist skyscraper in Sweden and
is the tallest building in
Scandinavia.1 It is considered to be
the world's first twisted skyscraper.2

The tower reaches a height of 190

meters with 54 floors and houses 147
residential apartments.

In August 2015, it received the 10

Year Award from the Council on Tall
Buildings and Urban Habitat. In 2005
he was awarded first place in the
Emporis Skyscraper Award

The Turning Torso is based on a

sculpture by Calatrava, called the
Twisting Torso, which takes the form
of a human being turning on itself
made of a piece of white marble.

TORRE DE SHANGHÁI
It is currently the tallest building in China
and the 2nd tallest skyscraper in the
world.

The tower is organized in the form of

nine cylindrical buildings stacked one
on top of the other, covered by a glass
facade. Between that and the outer
shell, which rotates as it rises, nine inner
gardens on different levels are the
public space for Shanghai residents.4 It
also has event spaces at the base of
the tower. It has the highest non-closed
observation deck in the world.
