- Procedures for its use and training requirements - Requirements for the redundancy of information
- Sufficient information available in case of failure. - Procedures for the management of EFB functions
- Procedures for its use and training requirements

“Used for the safe operations of aeroplane/helicopter”

- This wording is the compromise between EASA/FAA regulatory provisions at the time the SARPs were drafted.
- Guidance on how to interpret « used for the safe operations » is provided in ICAO Doc 10020

What is an EFB? EASA view

EASA’s view: any electronic device which is hosting an eligible EFB application
(Type A or type B) is an EFB.

PED

+ Eligible
EFB app = EFB

PEDs with non-EFB applications (internet browser, email,…) remain PEDs

EASA involvement (current and future)
EASA evaluations
- EASA is providing services in the area of EFB.
- It includes evaluation of EFB applications against AMC20-25 (before 09/07/19) and the new
EFB regulations and associated AMCs (after 09/07/19)
- Those evaluations are performed on request from an application developer (voluntary basis)
- Reports are normally publicly available on EASA website
- Conclusions and recommendations part of the report are not binding

Future ETSO (or other EASA approval):

- The intent is to give a legal basis to an EASA involvement
- EFB application standard developed by EUROCAE (ED-273)
