Course Overview
PSB, Trimester 1, 2018

ELEC3130: Electric Machines and Power Systems – Week 1 1


Course Objectives
• This course analyses A.C. (single and polyphase) machines and the steady state
performance of D.C. in the context of their application.
• Space vector theory is introduced and utilised to develop equivalent circuits.
• Fundamental power system topics are introduced and includes power system representation,
power flow, Symmetrical Components and Fault Calculations

Contact Hours
• Lecture for 3 hours per week for the full term (36 hours)
• Tutorial for 1 hours per week for the full term (12 hours)
• Laboratory for 9 hours per term for the full term
 Plus an additional 3 hour Lab Briefing

Plagiarism
• Copying or paraphrasing material from any source without due acknowledgment;
• Using another's ideas without due acknowledgment;
• Working with others without permission and presenting the resulting work as though it was
completed independently.
• For any part of the student’s work suspected of plagiarism, the entire submission will be
awarded zero marks pending further investigation by the University.

Late Submissions
• Late submissions will be penalized at a rate of 10% per day.
• For example if a student submitted an assignment 3 days late and the assignment was
awarded 75%. The final mark for the assignment after the penalty was applied would be
45%.
• Reports submitted after 5 work days receive zero marks.
