Let’s Explore and Discover

This lesson will enhance

your competencies on how
to make connections with
your personal experience Making connection
and the information you
-Your own personal
have viewed or read.
experience is linked
to the materials
you've read or
watched.

In making connections, your personal experience is connected to the texts you

have read or viewed. The texts include printed, visual, digital, and multi-media.
Using your prior knowledge or personal experiences, you can connect meanings
out of those texts.
Study the pictures:

A B C
These pictures have something to do with making connections.
What do you see in picture A?
Do have any experiences in cooking?
How about in picture B?
Is there ever a time when you read a separate book and then realize that the two
books are somehow connected?
For picture C?
Have you read a book or anything that is connected to the world?

3
There are three ways of making connections.

1. Text-to-self connection is a personal connection to information from any

printed (books, magazines, newspaper) and non-printed materials (television and
digital/internet).

Example: The illustration below is a poster of a tree planting activity. Upon

seeing the picture, what do you remember about it?

“I remember growing my
own vegetable garden in
our TLE class.”

2. Text-to-text connection is making a connection of the information being

read or viewed from any resources that are related to other resources
previously read.

Example: Below are illustrations of two different resources. Upon looking at the
illustrations, what do you remember about the information you have read?

Textbook A Textbook B
I have read a short story in Textbook A about
people who are victims of typhoon. Because of
that, I related it to the story I have read from
Textbook B about Typhoon Yolanda. The
characters, setting and author differ but the
events are the same.

3. Text-to-the world connection is made between a text or information being read

and an event happening in the world.

Example: Upon looking at the two illustrations, what do you remember

about the information you have read?
I have read and viewed on
daily news the increasing
number of people who are
contracting COVID-19 virus. I
remembered the importance
of proper handwashing that I
learned in school.

Rainy Days

Farmers love rainy days because their plants and crops grow fast. In
due time, these plants will yield an abundant harvest.
In the same way, some children also love to play outside when it is
raining. They run after each other on the muddy and slippery ground while
some enjoy indoor games like playing chess, “dama” or “sungka”.
Other people enjoy rainy days, too. They can save water for washing
clothes and cleaning dishes.
However, if heavy rains continue, parents can’t go to work and school
children get absent and cannot play outside.
