DETERMINATION OF FRICTIONAL POWER OF A SINGLE-
CYLINDER FOUR-STROKE DIESEL ENGINE
AIM:
To <letmnine the :friction power of the given single-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine by
perfonning the retardation test
APPARATUS REQUIRED:
I. Stopwatch
2.Tachometer
ENGINE DET~:
Obtain t2 and 13 from the graph (ref graph below- Fig. 3.1)

PROCEDURE:
1. Run the engine at no-load and rated speed condition,
2. Allow the engine to reach steady-state operating conditions.
3. Cut off the fuel supply to the engine.
4. Note down the time of the fall in the speeds for 25%, S~ 75%, and 100% rated
speeds.
S. Supply fuel to the engine and bring it back to its rated speed.
6. Repeat the tests with a 50% load on the engine.

the results are listed below.
