In task 2, you and your partner are going to do a speaking activity in Tandem/Skype. Please
follow these instructions carefully because you will need 3 tools for this task:
1. Tandem to find the instructions and information to perform the interactive speaking
task;
2. Skype to talk to you partner;
3. Talk Helper or Ecamm (Mac) to record your conversation.

Download the PDF “Instrucciones de Instalación” from the Unit 6 section of the
classroom and read it carefully. Follow the instructions you’ll find in it.

In this task, one person pretends to be a family doctor and the other pretends to be a patient
with a health problem. Make sure to follow the specific instructions you will find when you
access Tandem. You will do two different versions of the task: one time you will be the doctor
and one time you will be the patient. Each task is different.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please remember that TANDEM is designed to include a sequence of tasks that you will
complete one by one. When you have finished the task on each page, click ‘See Solution’.
Then, move to the next task. Remember, you can only move forward – you cannot go back.

The objective of Tandem is to produce a single spontaneous spoken exchange of information.

You will get specific instructions for different parts of the task as you go along.

**DO NOT access the Tandem task multiple times to get information about the task and
prepare ahead of time**. Your teacher is able to see each student’s Tandem history (the
Access Archive) and you will be penalized if the Access Archive shows that you accessed
the task multiple times.

VERY IMPORTANT! Introduce yourself (say your full name) at the beginning of the recording
so the teacher knows who each person is.

VERY IMPORTANT! Tandem will only allow you to access the activity once. You cannot repeat
this activity. You CANNOT prepare a script to read, as this will lower your mark. Being
spontaneous and having a natural conversation is positively marked, even if this implies
moments of hesitation to think of something to say.

There are TWO tasks inside Tandem. If you do not complete both tasks, you will receive a
lower mark.

Your final audio file should be about 8 to 10 minutes long (about four to five minutes for each
task).

Task 2a

Task 2a takes place before the Tandem/Skype conversation.

1. Prepare for the call:

disagreeing and prepare to use it while speaking.
