Why are free speech and free press important in a democratic system?

Freedom of speech and the press are essential in a democratic system because they help people
realize their potential and create a more informed public that can act on its knowledge. These
rights allow people to discover the truth, have a voice, and express themselves freely, essential to
democracy. If the First Amendment did not protect the freedom of speech and the press,
government officials could easily censor information that citizens should have access to. A
consequence of this is an authoritarian government.

What is the relationship between the government and the news media?

The relationship between the government and the news media is complicated because they are
both aspects of democracy, but they also have different interests. The government wants to
promote democracy while maintaining public trust. The news media want to report on current
events without being censored. The new media believe that they have a right to produce any
story. However, the government believes that specific public interests, such as national defence
matters, should not be made aware to the public. This result in tension between the two entities.

What restrictions, if any, should there be on the press and media?

The media also has a negative side. It sometimes publishes untrue things, stokes up fury and
division and breaks the rules of fair reporting. They should be held accountable for this, and
specific laws should be made to handle this situation. It will instil discipline in journalism.

What is the relationship between public opinion and the press and media?

The press and media play a crucial role in forming public opinion. They are a primary source of
information for the public. Public opinion is dependent on the information provided by the press
and media. Without news and information, public opinion would be near non-existence.

What is the relationship between public opinion and government?

The relationship between public opinion and government evolves as society changes, but it
constantly changes because the government changes. This relationship can also alter depending
on what the government is doing. As reported by the media, certain governing decisions will
evoke either a negative or positive public opinion.

How did emotional words present the viewpoint of the speakers?

In the first speech by the leader of Corona, emotional words expressed an angry viewpoint
throughout the whole speech. The speech was full of insulting and abusive words, evident in
words like "ape-like" and "Satan-like."

The second speech expressed a more formal viewpoint. The speaker expressed sadness and
remorsefulness at the turn of events.

A single article that is "objective and balanced."

Previous conflicts have existed between Corona and Dingnab. Peaceful resolutions to disputes
have always been found, but yesterday it erupted into a full-fledged war. As a result, casualties
occurred, including the commander of the loyal garrison at the border town of Dandy. The town
was taken over by the Corona armed forces, whom some pro-rebellion groups aided. Dingnab
has vowed to launch a military offensive to retake Dandy and exact vengeance on those who died
there. At the moment, no end to the war is in sight, as leaders of both Corona and Dingnab
expect victory.
