Students in this discussion-centered course explored various aspects of the constructive-developmental
transition from adolescence to adulthood (cognitive development, sociology-emotional development,
faith-stage development, and moral/ethical development), with particular attention to the relationship
between the college experience and identity/values development. This course provided students the
opportunity to actively engage with concepts, theories, and frameworks that helped increase awareness
and understanding of how our social identities—race, religion, class, ethnicity, age, gender—impact our
experiences in the communities where we live and work.

Child & Adolescent Development (College of Education) 2022 - Present

Introduction to theories of child and adolescent development emphasizing ages 5-18. Physical, cognitive,
emotional and social aspects of development will be considered. Includes observations of children and
adolescents in informal settings.

Schools, Curriculum, and Society (College of Education) 2022 - Present


This course explores the foundations of educational thought and practice through the works of influential
thinkers from diverse philosophical, historical, geographical, intersectional, language, and cultural
contexts. This course fulfilled the University-wide core curriculum for Citizenship and Social Values,
Writing, Women & Gender Studies, and Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies.

Youth Advocacy and Ed. Studies Internship (College of Education) 2021 – Present
This course provided students with an opportunity to gain work experience in various professional fields
that intersect with youth through internship. Credit hours varied, with each credit hour equaling at least
15 clock hours in a professional environment with an organization, school, non-profit, school district, or
related agency that supports the field of education as approved by the COE Director of Community
Partnerships or a Dean.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership (Kinesiology) 2016 – Present

Developed and steered through the approval process the creation of an interdisciplinary undergraduate
course in partnership with the Kinesiology, Nursing, and Education departments. Course focuses on
developing tangible leadership skills through experiential education and peer leadership. This course is
taught semesterly and has been running uninterrupted over the last ten semesters.

Experiential Learning Across Content Areas (College of Education) Spring 2018


Developed syllabus and overall course structure in partnership with TCU College of Education. This
graduate and undergraduate course is intended to support future teachers in implementing outdoor
education into their lesson plans regardless of subject matter. This course has continued to be offered
every spring semester following the development and piloting of this course during the Spring 2018
semester.

On Human Nature – Text & Treks in Nature (Honor’s College) Fall 2017
Developed syllabus and overall course structure in partnership with the TCU Honors College. Honors
College courses seek interdepartmental / inter-disciplinary collaboration and intersection. This course
combined the writings of naturalists and transcendentalists with service work at a local nature preserve.

Rock Climbing (PE Activity Course) Fall 2016 - Fall 2019


Successfully petitioned the university to add rock climbing to the PE activity course offerings.

Taught High School and Middle School students a variety of subjects ranging from English, to
Science, to Math. This school selectively enrolled students who had been dismissed from the local
Los Angeles Unified public schools due to behavioral issues. As a result, classroom management
skills, differentiated instruction, and restorative justice were required to be successful. After a
number of years as a teacher, I was asked to take on the responsibilities of the principal role in
addition to my teaching load (it was a small school, only 70 students 6th-12th grade). This role
included teacher preparation and education, guiding the school through the accreditation process,
and developing school-wide restorative justice policies.

Served as a subcommittee chair and participant on TCU’s Student Affairs DEI Committee. Developed,
executed, and evaluated student DEI needs and trainings on campus.

Served on TCU DEI working group to develop university-wide recommendations to integrate DEI principles
into the workplace culture of the university. Suggested several changes that were put into place including

embody DEI principles, and ‘DEI chair’ positions within each academic department.

Served as an academic appeals committee panel member for students who were appealing their grade given
in a particular class. Moderated conversation between students bringing the appeal and faculty who had
assigned the grade in question.

struggled with addiction, behavior, and academic issues. Provided staff training to direct care and
academic staff. Deescalated behavioral and emotional confrontations. Learned a lot about myself
and the pain that exists in the world.
