ECONOMY OF ASIA

The economy of Asia comprises more than 4.5 billion people (60% of the world population) living in 49 different nations.
[7]
Asia is the fastest growing economic region, as well as the largest continental economy by
both GDP Nominal and PPP in the world.[8] Moreover, Asia is the site of some of the world's longest modern economic
booms, starting from the Japanese economic miracle (1950–1990), Miracle on the Han River (1961–1996) in South
Korea, economic boom (1978–2013) in China, Tiger Cub Economies (1990–present) in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand,
Philippines, and Vietnam, and economic boom in India (1991–present).
As in all world regions, the wealth of Asia differs widely between, and within, states. This is due to its vast size, meaning
a huge range of different cultures, environments, historical ties and government systems. The largest economies in Asia in
terms of PPP gross domestic product (GDP) are China, India, Japan, Indonesia, Turkey, South Korea, Saudi
Arabia, Iran, Thailand and Taiwan and in terms of nominal gross domestic product (GDP) are China, Japan, India, South
Korea, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Taiwan, Thailand and Iran.

SOCIAL BACKGROUND OF ASIA

Social movements in southern Asia have been shaped by the social relations dominated by the elites of the

south Asian societies who share some common features in terms of culture and ideology. The movements have become
contested power games around the issues of class, caste/ethnicity, gender, region and development .

POLITICS IN ASIA

The politics of Asia are extremely varied as would be expected of such a large landmass and a diverse population.
Constitutional monarchies, absolute monarchies, one-party states, federal states, dependent territories, liberal democracies
and military dictatorships are all factors in the region, as well as various forms of independence movements.

CULTURAL STATUS IN ASIA

The culture of Asia encompasses the collective and diverse customs and traditions of art, architecture, music, literature,
lifestyle, philosophy, politics and religion that have been practiced and maintained by the numerous ethnic groups of the
continent of Asia since prehistory. Identification of a specific culture of Asia or universal elements among the colossal
diversity that has emanated from multiple cultural spheres and three of the four ancient River valley civilizations is
complicated. However, the continent is commonly divided into six geographic sub-regions, that are characterized by
perceivable commonalities, like culture, religion, language and relative ethnic (racial) homogeneity. These regions are
Central Asia, East Asia, North Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Asia.

As the largest, most populous continent and rich in resources, Asia is home to several of the world's oldest civilizations,
that produced the majority of the great religious systems, the oldest known recorded myths and codices on ethics and
morality
