Case Study:

Considering the importance of the selection process and its long-lasting effect on the company's
outcome, Mr. Zahid (HR manager) of Alpha Telecommunication Company is working with his team.
There is a need to hire new IT engineers for the best and most innovative technology solutions.

In the panel interview, Mr. Zahid and Line Manager Mr. Awais have just interviewed four IT
Engineer candidates. All four met the essential requirement, but few important points were identified
that bothered both of them.

The first candidate had less IT experience but is willing to learn and work with her team members.
But during the interview the candidate had indicated that in her previous job, she had a few issues
with her boss related to gender biasness.

The second candidate had a good experience in a well reputed IT firm and understood job duties but
the issue identified by Mr. Zahid is that the candidate’s personality shows less flexibility and would
fail to work in coordination with other IT team members.

Mr. Zahid identified that the third candidate had good experience and relevant knowledge that led her
to the selection stage, but what troubled him was that she clearly mentioned her family
responsibilities, indicating that she will not give any extra time if needed during any project due to
her family commitments.

The fourth candidate had sufficient knowledge, relevant degree, and experience, but he didn’t seem
interested in doing anything beyond expectation. The candidate assumes that going beyond job duties
is not an obligation to the employee. He is not willing to help any team member with troubleshooting.

Considering the above scenario and assuming yourself as an HR Manager of Alpha

We are looking for an Engineering Technician to join and support our engineering team with inspections,
research and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of each job site. 

Engineering Technician responsibilities include performing research, building prototypes and inspecting
products at the direction of lead engineers. They may also provide customer support and report day-to-day
issues to their supervisor. 

Ultimately, you will aid engineers by communicating effectively to troubleshoot technical issues and
design models for new products and equipment.

Requirements

 Proven work experience as an Engineering Technician or similar role


 Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
 Strong customer service skills and time management
 Excellent health and safety knowledge
 Ability to collaborate and remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
 Relevant licensure or certifications may be required
 Bachelor degree in computer science or information technology

Responsibilities

 Extensive knowledge of computer hardware systems


 Run tests, diagnostics, and calibrations
 Conduct experiments and investigations under the guidance of engineers
 Inspect IT inventory and reorder materials and technical components
 Attend conferences and participate in other learning and growth opportunities
 Familiarity with general OS systems, Enterprise, programming languages, and Office software.
 Knowledge of IP Phones.
 Knowledge of Biometric & Access Control System.
 Knowledge of LAN and wireless networks.
 Ability to project manage.
 Good communication skills.
 Ability to troubleshoot complex software and hardware issues.
 Knowledge of networking security systems.

2. As each of the above four applicants fell short in areas that is crucial for the good job performance.

Required characteristics is flexibility
Still as HR manager I am looking for right fit candidate for this job because everyone is lacking in one
main stream quality.
For company we are looking for person who is flexible which means that he has adoption characteristics
that every company wants. He prove himself that he can tackle tasks and changes as they come. He can
also show this skill by addressing improvements that need to be made and developing systems or solutions
to the issues.
