Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 9

I. Objectives
At the end of the period, the students are able to:
1. identify the parts of breathing process and describe the function
of each part;
2. define respiration and breathing;
3. trace the pathway of oxygen and carbon dioxide in human
respiratory tract and;
4. recognize the importance of healthy lifestyle to the wellness of the
respiratory system.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: The Respiratory System: Parts and Its Functions and the
Respiration Process
B. Materials: Laptop, reading handouts, handout of the parts of
respiratory system power point presentation, class in application.

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance
4. Setting of virtual classroom standards
5. Checking of assignment
B. Drill/ Review of the past lesson
1. Drill: Enumerate, describe and give the function of sex hormones.
1. Testosterone
2. Progesterone
3. Estrogen
2. Review:
1. What is Reproductive System?
2. What are the major function of the male reproductive
system?
3. What are the major functions of the female reproductive
system?
C. Motivation
1. Word storm: The teacher will show 5 mystery words which the
students have to decode using the number clues. The words that
will be formed are:
1. Breathing
2. Diffusion
3. Inspiration
4. Lungs
5. Respiration

2. Launch pad: The teacher will ask the students to hold a mirror in
front of their faces and exhale onto it for three times. They will have
to observe any changes on the surface of the mirror. Then, the
teacher will ask them the following questions:
1. What happened to the mirror?
2. What caused the formation of fog on the surface of the
mirror?
3. What does the activity tell about breathing?

3. Presentation of the objectives of the lesson

D. Presentation of the lesson

1. Discussion
The teacher will introduce the topic and start the discussion about
the four phases of respiration; breathing, eternal respiration,
internal respiration and cellular respiration.

2. Jigsaw Strategy
The class will be divided into 6 groups. Each student will be
assigned with a number and a letter which will help them determine
their expert and homeroom groups. Once the students are in their
expert group, each group will be given an article that they will have
to discuss for 3 minutes. Then the expert group will answer the
given guide questions. Afterwards, the class will then be regrouped
based on the letter that they were assigned, this time, each
member of the new group will be given 2 minutes to discuss their
assigned part.

3. Label the Parts

Have the students label the parts of the respiratory system based
from their discussion.

IV. Generalization
1. Picture analysis: Who is the smoker?
2. Share us your thoughts!
a. the respiratory system is the responsible for the exchange of
gases between the environment and the cells of the
organisms.
b. our body must continually get rid of carbon dioxide and take in
oxygen for the body cells to manufacture energy.
c. one must take good care of every single part of the respiratory
system for it to fulfill its function.

V. Evaluation
1. Fact or Bluff
The teacher will present concepts which were discussed and the
students will determine if it’s a fact or a bluff.
1. Mouth warms, moistens, & filters air as it is inhaled
2. Bronchioles is a network of smaller branches leading from the
bronchi into the lung tissue & ultimately to air sacs
3. the functional respiratory units in the lung where gases are
exchanged is the trachea
4. Larynx is also called the adam’s apple for boys, where their
vocal chords are located
5. Trachea is lined with fine hairs called cilia which filter air before
it reaches the lungs
VI. Assignment
1. Research about the different disorders and illnesses that afflict the
respiratory system.
