ĐỘNG/ SỰ KIỆN TRONG QUÁ KHỨ

(Describe an activity/ past event)
LƯU Ý
 Chọn 1-2 mẫu giới thiệu (introduction) & kết luận (conclusion) mà bạn thích và ghi
nhớ chúng (Đừng lãng phí thời gian để ghi chú của các phần trong thời gian chuẩn
bị!)
Tuy nhiên, những câu hỏi đôi khi có thể không cung cấp đủ thông tin/ đầu mối/ gợi ý
cho các sĩ tử trình bày bài miêu tả của họ ➔ ứng viên thiếu ý tưởng/ phương hướng ➔
cuộc nói chuyện kéo dài không dài hơn 2 phút. Vì vậy, các bạn nên luyện tập ghi chú
theo dàn bài sau đây dành cho chủ để về “Miêu tả một hoạt động/ sự kiện trong quá khứ
(Describe an activity/ past event)”.
 Chú ý chia thì QUÁ KHỨ (thì quá khứ đơn thường được sử dụng hơn) cho các hoạt
động/ sự kiện diễn ra trong quá khứ.

TECHNIQUE : KỸ THUẬT
Bước 1: HOẠT ĐỘNG/ SỰ KIỆN GÌ? (What) DIỄN RA KHI NÀO (When)
– Hoạt động/ sự kiện bạn muốn miêu tả là gì
– Giới thiệu ngắn về nó
– Thời điểm diễn ra hoạt động/ sự kiện
– Cấu trúc câu miêu tả thời điểm diễn ra:
Ví dụ:
 The time (that/when) + did something: thời điểm làm việc đó
…the time when I saw an interesting story on TV… (thời điểm tôi thấy một câu chuyện
thú vị trên TV)
…the time that my friend and I went on a day trip… (thời điểm bạn tôi và tôi tham gia
một chuyến đi trong ngày)
…the time I went to the Houston Rockets… (thời điểm tôi đến xem Houston Rockets)
 The first time + did something: lần đầu tiên làm việc đó
…the first time I learned to ride a bike… (lần đầu tiên tôi tập đạp xe đạp)
…the first time I played chess… (lần đầu tiên tôi học chơi cờ vua)
…the first time I flew in a plane… (lần đầu tiên tôi bay trong một chiếc máy bay)
Bước 2: TẠI SAO NÓ DIỄN RA? (Why) Ở ĐÂU? (Where) NGƯỜI THAM GIA
(Who)
 Miêu tả hoạt động/ sự kiện đó theo trình tự thời gian.
Ví dụ:
First of all (Đầu tiên), I (packed my suitcase)
Secondly (Thứ hai), I …. (made sure I had all my documents)
Previously (Trước đó) ….. I changed some money.
Then (Sau đó)… I (called a taxi for the airport)
Later (on) (Sau đó)… (when we were stuck in traffic, I realised…)
But before all that (Nhưng trước tất thảy)… (I had double checked my reservation)
Finally (Sau cùng)… (I arrived at the wrong check-in desk at the wrong airport for a
flight that didn’t go until the next day)
 Các giới từ chỉ địa điểm (Prepositions of location)
Ví dụ:
 In (trong) + một nơi rộng lớn hay bao quát (an enclosed or larger place)
…in my house…: trong nhà của tôi
 At (tại) + một địa điểm hay nơi chốn cụ thể (a specific place or location)
…at the centre of the page…: tại trung tâm của trang
 Over/above (trên) + một địa điểm hay nơi chốn cụ thể (a specific place or
location)
…above the building…: trên tòa nhà
…over the bridge…: trên cái cầu
 Next to/ beside/ by (bên cạnh) + một địa điểm hay nơi chốn cụ thể (a certain
place or location)
…by the lake…: cạnh dòng sông
…next to the post office…: bên cạnh bưu điện
…beside a Chinese restaurant…: bên cạnh nhà hàng Trung Hoa
 Between (ở giữa) + two places or locations (hai địa điểm hay nơi chốn)
…between Saigon and Ha Noi…: giữa Sài Gòn và Hà Nội
…between the mountains…: giữa những ngọn núi
 Outside (bên ngoài) of một thị trấn/ thành phố(a town/ city)
…outside of Ho Chi Minh City…: bên ngoài thành phố Hồ Chí Minh
Bước 3: NHỮNG MỐI QUAN HỆ, CÔNG VIỆC VÀ NHÓM THAM GIA
(Relationships, occupation and group involved)
 Cấu trúc “Người + mệnh đề quan hệ”: Person + relative clause
Ví dụ
 Susan, who was an accountant with HSBC, was waiting for me outside. (Susan, người
làm kế toán của HSBC, đã chờ tôi ở bên ngoài)
 My grandfather, who was a very kind and gentle man, got so angry that he… (Ông
của tôi, người đàn ông rất hiền từ và lịch lãm, đã giận dữ đến nỗi ông…)
 All of the party-goers who had been dancing all night decided to go to another bar.
(Tất cả những người tham dự tiệc, những người đã nhảy xuyên đêm, quyết định đến
một quán bar khác)
Bước 4: TẠI SAO HOẠT ĐỘNG/ SỰ KIỆN ĐÓ LẠI QUAN TRỌNG? (Why was/is
it important to you) BẠN CẢM THẤY THẾ NÀO VỀ NÓ (How you felt/feel about
it)
 Sử dụng tính từ miêu tả cảm xúc (adjectives of feelings)
 Embarrassing: xấu hổ
 Irate: tức giận
 Incredulous: hoài nghi, ngờ vực
 Moved: cảm động, xúc động
 Touched: cảm động, thương cảm
 Pleased: hài lòng, hân hạnh
 Delighted: vui mừng, hài lòng
 Thrilled: hào hứng, hồi hộp
 Over the moon: hạnh phúc tột cùng
 On cloud nine: sung sướng đến 9 tầng mây
 Enthusiastic: hào hứng, háo hức
 Reassured: yên tâm, an lòng
 Satisfied: hài lòng, thỏa mãn
Ví dụ:
– Although it was embarrassing at the time, when I think about it now I guess it’s
pretty amusing. (Mặc dù việc đó thật xấu hổ vào thời điểm đó, khi tôi nghĩ lại về nó
bây giờ thì nó khá hài hước)
– I was really moved to visit a place with such an awe-inspiring (Tôi thật sự cảm động
khi tham quan một địa điểm với lịch sử gây cảm hứng một cách ngạc nhiên)
 Sử dụng thì HIỆN TẠI HOÀN THÀNH (Present perfect) để thể hiện tầm quan
trọng
– Cấu trúc 1: (event) was + the superlative (So sánh nhất) (type of event) I have
ever + Past Participle
That match was the best match I have ever played in. (Trận đấu đó là trận hay nhất mà tôi
từng chơi)
– Cấu trúc 2: Since (event) I have + the comparative (So sánh hơn) + Past
Participle
Since that party, I have been much more interested in foreign cultures and customs. (Kể
từ bữa tiệc đó, tôi ngày càng thích văn hóa và phong tục nước ngoài hơn)
 Sử dụng các cấu trúc để thể hiện việc “thích/ không thích” (Like/dislike) và thể hiện ý
kiến (Opinion)
Thích (Liking):
– I’m really keen on/ I’m pretty fond of watching football matches (Tôi khá thích
xem đá banh)
– I have a great interest in / I’m quite interested in learning different languages (Tôi
cảm thấy thích thú khi học một ngôn ngữ mới)
– I’m a big fan of/ I admire the way he analyzes the product in his group presentation
(Tôi là người hâm mộ/ ngưỡng mộ cách anh ấy phân tích sản phẩm trong bài thuyết
trình nhóm của anh ấy)
– I prefer eating fresh food rather than processed food (Tôi thích ăn đồ ăn tươi sống
hơn thức ăn đóng hộp)
– I’m passionate about playing piano (Tôi đam mê chơi đàn piano)
– Watching tennis matches is my cup of tea (Xem đánh tennis là sở thích của tôi)
Không thích (Disliking):
– I’m not really satisfied with the way he present the product (Tôi thực sự không hài
lòng với cách anh ấy giới thiệu sản phẩm)
– Lie disgusts me (Nói dối làm tôi kinh tởm)
– I’m not a big fan of horror movies (Tôi không phải là người hâm mộ phim kinh dị)
– I’m not really fond of playing sports (Tôi không thực sự thích chơi thể thao)
– Travelling is simply not my cup of tea. (Du lịch đơn giản không phải là sở thích
của tôi)
– I can’t stand his irresponsibility as well as his terrible behavior. (Tôi không thể chịu
nổi tính vô trách nhiệm cũng như cách hành xử tệ bạc của anh ấy).
Ý kiến (Opinion)
– Frankly/ To be honest with you, my cooking skill is extremely horrible (Thực ra/
Nói thật với bạn, kĩ năng nấu nướng của tôi khá là tệ).
– The way I see that it’s a big challenge to study and work at the same time (Theo tôi
thấy vừa học vừa làm là một thử thách lớn)
– Generally speaking, this university offers students great facilities (Nhìn chung,
trường đại học này cung cấp cho học sinh cơ sở vật chất tuyệt vời)
– In my point of view, it’s worth paying for a trip to Europe (Theo cách nhìn của tôi,
chuyến đi đến châu Âu rất đáng tiền)
– To my mind/ I believe/ As far as I’m concerned, English is a crucial language that
can help me getting a job more easily (Với tôi, tiếng Anh là một ngôn ngữ cần thiết có
thể giúp tôi kiếm được việc một dễ dàng)
 Các cấu trúc tổng kết bài:
– The (event) taught me that…: Sự kiện này đã dạy tôi rằng…
– Through this experience, I learnt the importance of…: Qua trải nghiệm này, tôi
học được tầm quan trọng của…
Through this experience, I learnt the importance of studying as well as I could, and
not being lazy. (Qua trải nghiệm này, tôi học được tầm quan trọng của giáo dục càng
nhiều càng có thể và không lười biếng nữa)
– I will never forget/remember…: Tôi sẽ không bao giờ quên/ nhớ được…
I will never forget watching that crazy basketball match with my father. (Tôi sẽ không
bao giờ quên được buổi xem trận bóng chày điên rồ đó với cha tôi)
– Overall, it was a rewarding experience and I learnt a lot: Nhìn chung, đây là một
trải nghiệm đáng giá và tôi học được rất nhiều.
– Although I enjoyed it at the time, I wouldn’t want to do it again because…: Mặc
dù tôi rất thích nó vào thời điểm đó, tôi không muốn thực hiện nó lại lần nữa bởi vì…
