Background of The Study
Background of The Study
The change of life stages from a student to a professional is not always very simple. Students
have to face many challenges when they enter into professional life. They have to adjust
themselves according to the professional environment by implementing their conceptual
knowledge in the new world of work. Usually, business students use their skills and theoretical
business knowledge in their first jobs . By integrating conceptual knowledge and training
through academic internship programs, students can be facilitated to better implement their
concepts at the workplace . According to Gault et al. academic internships are a bridge to link
the theory and practice by taking part in supervised and scheduled work. These internship
programs not only improve students personal skills but also polish their professional growth and
experience. Today, educational institutes, students and business recruiters are well aware of
the importance of internship programs . Internship programs are the opportunities for
educational institutes to upgrade the students enrollment and prepare their curriculum. For
students, internships are experience of practical work . As companies prefer those business
graduates who have required skills and practical knowledge , internships supply valuable
employees and competent job applicants to the companies. Internship programs enable
students to get training during their course programs and save companies’ supervision and
training costs by providing them trained employees.
On-the-job training (OJT) is a practical approach to acquiring new competencies and skills
needed for a job in a real, or close to real, working environment. It is often used to learn how to
use particular tools or equipment in a live-work practice, simulated, or training environment. but
it can increase productivity and efficiency in specific industries. Not only that, it can benefit the
company as a whole, from reducing training costs to creating more effective, motivated
employees.On-the-job training allows employees to gain experience working in situations very
similar to those they’ll encounter on a daily basis. This type of training can help with faster
onboarding and getting an acceptable level of performance. It allows employees to learn
processes in your organization faster and more efficiently.On-the-job training shows trainee
exactly what duties they’re expected to complete, and exactly how to complete them. As part of
this training process, we can practice each task expected for us and get detailed information
about what processes our job involves. This eliminates confusion, stress, and allows trainee to
perform their job to the best of their abilities. After learning from their instructor, new employees
should be allowed to practice their skills, under the supervision of their trainer.During this time,
trainers should evaluate their performance. If there are any issues, the trainer can address and
correct them.Once on-the-job training is complete, conduct an assessment to ensure the
employee has gained the skills needed for their job.
Students should keep in mind when they are at their internship, they are in a
professional working environment. This is a great opportunity for students to network, gain work
experience, develop themselves on a personal level, and earn recommendations for future
jobs/graduate school. An important part of interning at an agency is learning about: different
work environments, how people work together, levels of accountability, and understanding an
office climate/culture. Students are required to read through a site observation rubric at the
beginning of the internship and keep these concepts in mind. Towards the middle of the
internship students will revisit the rubric and answer questions about their internship work
environment and their ability to work and thrive in that environment.Students are expected to act
in a professional manner. While at an internship, students are not just representing themselves,
but they are representing the South East Asian Institute of Technology (SEAIT).

BODY
Internships or OJT are foundational in preparing students for the workforce and providing
opportunities after graduation. Most employers seek career-ready college graduates who have
been equipped with prior experiences and skills in a given field. As part of this training process,
we can practice each task expected for us and get detailed information about what processes
our job involves. This eliminates confusion, stress, and allows trainee to perform their job to the
best of their abilities. After learning from their instructor, new employees should be allowed to
practice their skills, under the supervision of their trainer.During this time, trainers should
evaluate their performance. If there are any issues, the trainer can address and correct us.Once
on-the-job training is complete, conduct an assessment to ensure the employee has gained the
skills needed for their job. These on-the-job training is the kind of work that people did was
mainly unskilled or semiskilled work that did not require specialized knowledge. In fact, it is
probably the most popular method of training because it requires only a person who knows how
to do the task, and the tools which the person uses to do the task. It includes verbal and written
instruction, demonstration and observation, hand-on practice and imitation. There are some
advantages of using on-the-job training. Training can be delivered at the optimum time,
The trainee will have immediate feedback, and lastly, training is delivered by colleagues and
can go some way to integrate the trainee into the team. If there are advantages there are also
disadvantages. There is a tendency to fit on the job training when it is convenient for office
routine rather than at the optimum time for learning, too much training can be delivered in one
session leading to trainee fatigue, the trainer may not have sufficient knowledge of the process
or expertise in instructional techniques.Students who undergo on-the-job training are very lucky
because they are the ones who usually take pride in learning new skills. They gained to improve
their future employment value and for them to have new capability in their future career, in
addition, by making learning possible, they earn their respect and build enduring relationships
CONCLUSION
The student interns tend to have prepared and complied strictly with the set requirements.
Assistance and moral support accorded to them by the educational institutions and
stakeholders were contributory in making their lives easier while in any institutions or
industry. Experiential learning through internship is indeed designed to develop further their
