TRIM & LIST

EXAMPLE PROBLEM
TRIM:

A ship 160 m long is floating at drafts of Fwd 9.50m and Aft 10.50m. The centre of flotation is 3.0 m.
aft of amidships. MCT 1 cm.: 300 tons-m. Displacement:8,300 tons. Find the new drafts if a weight of
150 tons already on board is shifted forward a distance of 45 meters.

Trimming Moment Change of trim Change of Draft Aft:

=wxd = Trimming Moment/ MCT 1
= 300 tons x 45 m cm ½ of LBP – LCF
=13500 tons-m (head) = 13500 tons-m/ 300 tons m ------------------- x COT
by 1 cm LBP
=45 cms
80m-3.0m
=------------- x 45 cm
160m

77m
= ---------- x 45 cm
160m

= 21.66 cms or 0.217m

Note: LCF has been subtracted from

½ of LBP considering it was position
aft of the midship. It will be added
to the ½ of LBP if it is positioned
forward of midship. But if LCF is
positioned at midship then LCF is
zero & nor correction required.
Change of draft forward: New Draft:

Change of trim: 0.45m by stern
2.Change due to trim: added from forward draft hence weight is shift to
forward resulted for increase of draft. While subtracted from forward hence
weight was removed from aft and resulted of reduced of draft aft.
2. Vessel draft is 10m fwd and 10.5m aft. She load 1500 tons 12m aft of the tipping center. If
the TPC is 60 tons/cm and the MTC is 1500 tons-meter, what is her final draft after loading?

1. To checked: Initial Trim: 0.50m by stern

Change of Trim: 0.12m by head

2. Applied Bodily Sinkage since vessel will loading/added weight. Thus, should be added to the initial Draft.
3. ½ of Change of Trim 12cm should be applied both to the fwd and aft draft. It was subtracted from initial fwd
draft and added to initial aft draft since cargo was being loaded at aft of tipping center. Vessel trim by the stern &
aft draft will increased while fwd draft will reduced

LIST:

1.A Vessel with displacement 0f 18000tons, KG:6m, KM:8.50m, loaded 1500tons of cargo at
port side, 4meters from the centerline of a vessel & 11m from the keel.
Find the angle of list of the vessel?
