CEDAR SESSION NOTES – April 19th Meeting
- Pastor Knierim was able to join with us for this meeting. He had
previously requested to be placed on inactive status to care for Joann.
He is now able to return to active service with the Session, and will once
again be taking an active role in leadership and shepherding, although he
will be traveling several times during this summer. Please pray for the
Lord’s blessing to be upon him and his ministry among us.
- Once again, an important portion of our meeting was held jointly with the
deacons. Our focus at the April meeting was again on specifics of Cedar
Church’s mercy ministry and on additional aspects of our facility, as
well as ways to enhance communication with the congregation.
- The Session has scheduled a special offering in June for a special fund
for helping support several of our young people who are embarking on
exciting avenues of ministry:
-Christina Hartwell has been accepted as a Missionary Associate by the
OPC Committee on Foreign Missions to serve with the missionary team
in East Asia. She hopes to serve for a year there, and is planning to
depart toward the end of August. Please be in prayer for her
preparations and fund-raising efforts this summer.
-Another one of our young people is giving serious consideration to serving
as a Missionary Associate in Africa starting early in 2012.
-Elizabeth Van Dyke is planning to serve in local discipleship ministry with
our young people this summer, as well as assisting in other aspects of
our church’s ministry.
The Session is thrilled to see our young adults stepping forward in
sacrificial service to Christ. Please be in prayer for them, and consider
generously supporting them financially as they seek to serve in Christ’s
kingdom!
-The special meeting planned in April for the Session to specially focus on
the needs, challenges, and opportunities of the Discipleship and
Christian Education aspects of our church ministry had to be postponed
due to schedule conflicts. The Session is planning a retreat to focus on
these areas during the summer. So there is still time for you provide
feedback and ideas for these vital aspects of Cedar Church’s ministry!
-The May Session meeting was held on Monday, May 23. A separate report
on that meeting will be prepared for publication in the near future.
On behalf of the Session,
David Van Dyke, clerk
