Practicum Policy and Guidelines

Introduction:

This document contains the general policies and guidelines for students enrolled in the Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration practicum program.

The content is as follows:


I. General objectives of the program.
II. General requirements of the program.

I. General Objectives of the Program

This program supports students who will be embarking on their first applied practicum
course in preparation for professional work as business administrators, managers and/or
practitioners. It aims to
1. Give students the actual exposure to business in the field of accounting, finance,
auditing, taxation and other auxiliary services within an organizational structure.
2. Enable the students to gain experience, relate and apply theories learned in the
actual work setting.
3. Develop and instill a positive attitude, self-confidence and self-motivation required
of a responsible professional.
4. Impress on the students the value of human relations in the work place and work
ethics.
5. Enable students to have an opportunity to share the good news of salvation.

II. General Requirements of the Program.

1. The BSBA department defines the requisites of the program.


2. All BSBA students will undergo the Practicum program.
3. A student must meet the required minimum exposure of 600 hours.
4. A student is required to submit a final report at the end of the practicum.

III. Procedures and Guidelines


1. A term before a student plans to enroll in practicum; he/she must be evaluated first by
their department chairperson. The students must have taken 60% of the required business
and professional courses.
2. The student then files for an application for practicum.
3. The student then writes a letter of application addressed to the company concerned and
endorsed/recommended by the practicum adviser. The student may send to more than
one company with the adviser’s approval and knowledge.
4. The student waits for the acceptance. He/she is responsible in following-up his/her letter
of application.
5. When the student receives a letter of acceptance, he/she must inform his/her practicum
adviser.
6. The adviser must in turn coordinate and confirm with the said company the student’s
acceptance to undergo a practicum with them.
7. The student then submits the waiver form, signed by his/her parent/guardian to the
practicum adviser.
8. The student is required to attend the series of Pre-Deployment Orientation Seminar.
9. The student can then enroll the practicum subject.
10. The student is required to make a daily report.
11. The student should at all times keep all documents pertaining to his/her practicum.
12. The student must comply with the general guidelines of the company regarding their own
practicum program policy.
13. The student must complete at least a minimum of 600 hours as categorized by the
Department.
14. Upon completion, the student is required to obtain from the company the following
documents:
a. Certificate of completion
b. Final evaluation form
15. The student is then required to prepare a written report and submits this to the adviser at
the end of the term.

IV. Duties and Responsibilities of the Host Company


a. Through the immediate supervisor or the Human Resource Director, the Company should
ensure that the work assignment of the student-trainee is technical in nature and related to
the student’s course.
b. Ensures a safe working environment for students undergoing practicum.
c. Assigns an immediate supervisor who will monitor the attendance and performance of the
student for the duration of the practicum.
d. Upon completion of the required number of hours, requires the student to submit to the
practicum adviser a Certificate of Completion stating the student’s general performance
and that the student has satisfactorily completed all requirements.
e. Through the assigned supervisor, fills up the Evaluation Form, and signs, seals, and submits
this to the adviser through the student.

V. Grading system

The grading system to be adopted will be:


1. Practicum 80%
1.1. Supervisor’s assessment report 50%
1.2. Written report 30%
1.3 Cengage-Pathbrite 20%
2. Submission of required documents/Attendance to the PDOS 20%
VI. General Practicum Written Report Form

All students undergoing Practicum is required to submit a bound written report. The
contents of the bound report are as follows:

Chapter I: Brief background/history of the company/company profile (1-3 pages)
Chapter II: Daily progress report compilation
Chapter III: Assessment of practicum program
- Reaction by the student with the following suggested format:
o What I learned from the experience? (technical)
o My experiences with the people around me.
o The most memorable event during my practicum
o What I can recommend for the improvement of the practicum program.
o My advice to those who will take their practicum in the near future.
