IV. PROCEDURES

ACTIVITY 1: ROUND ME OFF

Strategy: Game-based Learning via Kahoot (Drill)
A. Introduction
The students will have a drill on rounding off integers to the nearest whole
number.

ACTIVITY 2: THE GUESSING GAME

B. Development
Strategy: Making inference
Integration: Science (Body Parts and Measuring Devices) and English
(Inferencing with Pictures)

Each of the four pictures have something in common, that one word which is
what you must find.

Guide Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. Were you able to get the key words right away?
3. What sentence can you form from these words to make it a definition?
4. Have you encountered this definition? If yes, what is being defined?

ACTIVITY 3: CAN YOU HELP ME?

Strategies: Inquiry-based Learning, Reflective Learning and Discovery
Learning

The students will watch a short video about Percentiles. (The video will leave
the students hanging for its answers will be discovered after the discussion
proper.)

Guide Questions:

1. How should Miguel feel about his quiz that fell under the 80 th percentile?
Should he feel happy or sad? Why?
2. Do you think you have an advantage if you are in the 80 th percentile like
Miguel? If Yes, why? If No, why not?

Strategy: Direct Instruction

PERCENTILES

These are the ninety-nine score points which divide the

distribution into one-hundred equal parts.

It can be used to determine the values for 1%, 2%, …., and 99% of the
distribution. P40 or 40th percentile of the distribution means 40% of the
distribution have values less than or equal to P40.

Illustrative Example:
Find the 30th percentile (P30) of the distribution: 3, 5, 2, 5, 4, 6, 8, 7, 4.

STEPS ILLUSTRATION
1. Arrange the values in the
distribution in ascending 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 8
order.

2. In finding the position of

the 30th percentile (P30) of
30 30 30
the distribution, use (𝑛 +
100 (a) Position of P30 = (9 + 1) = (10) =
100 100
1) where n is the number of
3
values. Round off to the
nearest whole number.
Therefore, P30 is the 3rd data.
Note: 50th percentile or P50
is also the median of the
distribution.

3. Look at the distribution.

30th Percentile (P30): the
value in the distribution that Based on the distribution, P30 = 4
falls under the computed
position of P30.

C. Engagement
ACTIVITY 4: THE LIFE-CHANGER
Strategies: Think-Pair-Share, Inquiry-based Learning, and Content-based
Instruction
Integration: Health (Communicable Disease, and Precautionary
Measures), Science (Microbiology-Viruses), Araling Panlipunan (Mortality
Rate)

Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly

discovered coronavirus. It causes mild to severe respiratory illness including
death.
Below is the summary of the top 16 cities with the most number of Covid
cases:
Screenshot taken from: https://covid19stats.ph/stats/by-demographics

Guide Questions:
1. Which among the cities has the highest number of Covid Cases?
2. Which among the cities has the lowest number of Covid Cases?
3. What does having the highest number of Covid Cases indicate?
4. Which among the cities fall under the 70th percentile based on the number of
deaths? Compute the 70th percentile.
5. What does this indicate?

ACTIVITY 5: AGE DOESN’T MATTER

Strategy: Activity-based Instruction
Integration: Araling Panlipunan (Demography)

Using the Ahaslides App, the students will key in their ages. Once the data
has been gathered, they will find the indicated percentile and identify who
among their classmates will fall under their computed percentile position.

a. P20 b. P45 c. P73 d. P90

D. Assimilation
ACTIVITY 6: AM I HEALTHY ENOUGH?
Strategy: Activity-based Instruction and Inquiry-based Learning
Integration: Health (Body-Mass Index)

The table below shows the Body Mass Index (BMI) of 15 students of Grade
10-Silang. Find the 75th percentile.

Body Body
Mass Mass
Index Index
(BMI) (BMI)
Student 1 16.6 Student 9 25.3
Student 2 17.8 Student 10 25.24

Student 6 19 Student 14 32.11
Student 7 20.64 Student 15 36.4
Student 8 23.1

Guide Questions:
1. Which student fell under the 75th percentile?
2. What is the BMI classification of the student in the 75th percentile?

ACTIVITY 7: LET’S GIVE IT A TRY!

Complete this table. Find the indicated percentile.

Students Height in cm:

193, 183, 176, 163, 152, 160, 175, 184, 180, 173, 199, 173
