SAFETY WARNING
DOs AND DO NOTs
Everyone who uses this tent should read this manual and become
familiar with all safety warnings and precautions for safe use,
assembly, care, maintenance, and storage. Keep this manual so you
can refer to it later.

DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which,

BEFORE YOU START

if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.

WARNING indicates an potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION indicates an potentially hazardous situation which,

if not avoided, could result in property damage.

DANGER
FLAMMABILITY WARNING
KEEP ALL FLAME AND HEAT SOURCES AWAY FROM THIS TENT
FABRIC. This tent is made with flame resistant fabric which meets
CPAI-84 specifications. IT IS NOT FIREPROOF. The fabric will burn if
left in continuous contact with any flame source. The application of
any foreign substance to the tent fabric may render the flame-
resistant properties ineffective. For these reasons:

•DO NOT use matches, lighters, stoves, heaters, grills, lanterns,

candles, cooking equipment, or other fuel-burning devices inside
or near a tent.
•DO NOT build fires under or near a tent.
•DO NOT leave campfires unattended.

Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or
permanent disability to you or others.

WARNINGS

DANGER
CARBON MONOXIDE GAS WILL KILL YOU
Stoves, heaters, grills, lanterns, candles, and other fuel-burning
devices that burn propane, natural gas, charcoal, kerosene, coal, or
other fuels produce a toxic gas called carbon monoxide. Because
carbon monoxide gas is invisible, odorless, and colorless, a
dangerous level of carbon monoxide gas can accumulate in a tent
which cannot be detected by sight, smell, or taste.

BEFORE YOU START

When breathed in even small quantities, carbon monoxide is
absorbed into the bloodstream, replacing and reducing the oxygen
in the bloodstream and causing carbon monoxide poisoning and
suffocation, which will cause death, serious injury, or permanent
disability. Exposure to high concentrations of carbon monoxide for
even a few minutes will also cause death, serious injury, or
permanent disability. For these reasons:
• DO NOT use stoves, heaters, grills, lanterns, candles or other
fuel-burning devices inside or near a tent.
Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or
permanent disability to you or others.

DANGER
SUFFOCATION HAZARD
Any tent must be properly ventilated in all weather conditions to allow
sufficient airflow into and out of the tent. If airflow into and out of a
tent is obstructed (for example, if heavy snow obstructs the air flow)
you and other persons will suffer from lack of oxygen and suffocate,
resulting in death, serious injury, or permanent disability. For these
reasons:
• DO clear snow or other materials away from a tent frequently.
• DO NOT use stoves, heaters, grills, lanterns, candles or other
fuel-burning devices inside or near a tent (SEE CARBON
MONOXIDE WARNING ABOVE).
Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or
permanent disability to you or others. 3
SAFETY INFORMATION
-IMPORTANT-

WARNINGS
Read, and follow, all instructions before assembling and using!

DANGER
SEVERE WEATHER HAZARD
In some climactic conditions (for example, severe storms, high winds, or
heavy snow cover), stakes and guy cords may not be sufficient to anchor
a tent securely, which could result in the tent being picked up or blown
away, causing death, serious injury, or permanent disability. Under such
conditions:
BEFORE YOU START

• DO use supplemental means to securely anchor the tent, for example,

snow pegs, skis, and/or heavy rocks or other heavy objects.
• DO seek appropriate shelter, for example, in a house, cabin,
building, or secure structure other than a tent.

Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or
permanent disability to you or others.

DANGER
PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN
Children will not understand and appreciate the FIRE, CARBON
MONOXIDE POISONING, SUFFOCATION, AND SEVERE WEATHER
hazards described above and will not know how to avoid or respond
to these hazards if no adults are present. For this reason:

• DO NOT leave children unattended inside a tent or in camp.

• DO NOT allow children to assemble a tent.
• DO NOT allow children to enter or exit a tent except through
the door.
• DO NOT allow children to remain in a closed-up tent on
hot days.

Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or
permanent disability to your children.

SETTING UP YOUR TENT
1. Assemble the poles (Fig. 1A, 1B and 1C).
DO NOT allow the shockcord to snap the pole sections
together, this can damage the poles.

Figure 1A Figure 1B Figure 1C

PITCHING INSTRUCTIONS
2. Spread the tent body on the ground.
3. Locate the bright green open ends of the long pole
sleeves (Fig. 3).

Figure 3

4. Starting with a long pole, slide it, ball-end first

(Fig. 4A) into one of the pole sleeves and feed it in
until it fully seats against the closed end (Fig. 4B).
Repeat for the other long pole.

Figure 4B Figure 4B

5. Slide the shorter pole, ball-end first into the sleeve

that crosses over the center of the tent (Fig. 5).

ATTACHING THE FLY

8. Locate the two side-release buckles on the bright
yellow webbing on the fly. Line up the fly so that
they will attach to the buckles on the bright yellow
webbing on the corresponding corners of the tent
(Fig.8).

Figure 8

9. Clip the buckles on the fly to the buckles at each

corner of the tent body (Fig. 9A and 9B).

6
Figure 9A Figure 9B
10. Stake out the vestibules at the front and back of
the tent so that they are taut.
11. Cinch down webbing straps on each side release
tent/fly buckle.
STAKING TIPS
THE BEST WAY TO USE ROCKS FOR STAKING AND GUYING
OUT IN ROCKY TERRAIN (OR ON PAVEMENT) IS TO FIND ONE
LARGE AND ONE SMALL ROCK. TIE A PIECE OF CORD FROM
YOUR STAKE OR GUY-OUT POINT AROUND THE SMALL ROCK,
SET THE LARGE ROCK ON TOP OF THE CORD RIGHT NEXT TO
THE SMALL ROCK, PULL BACK UNTIL IT’S TIGHT.

ATTACHING FLYBOY

PITCHING INSTRUCTIONS
12. Attach FlyBoy. FlyBoy consists of a patch that is
permanently affixed to the fly and a plastic clip
that anchors the body, poles and fly together.
A. FlyBoy™: A- patch B- clip (Fig. 12A)
B. Center and pinch patch around pole (Fig. 12B).
C. Slide clip to top of elastic and center over rainfly
and pole (Fig. 12C).
D. Press clip onto rainfly and pole above patch (Fig. 12D).
E. Slide clip down onto patch and into place (Fig. 12E).

GUY OUT WITH FLYBOY
If you run two cords at an angle from the side,
all movement except toward the anchors will be
prevented. Once you start using cords from the side
it becomes clear that they are much more useful
than straight-out cords.

NOTE: For optimum strength (as shown) you will need

to purchase additional guyline.

TENT TECHNOLOGY

Webforce™ consists of two parts. The first is the

“trusses” at the pole sleeve intersections. These
guide the pole through the intersection, easing set up,
and eliminating any independent movement of the
poles, thus automatically strengthening the structure.

The second part is the Webforce™ “tendons” on

the fly, which lock stakeout points to FlyBoy™,
preventing any stretch or movement under even the
heaviest winds.

KELTY TECHNOLOGY
Kelty’s patented FlyBoy™ is a lightweight and
simple solution to one of the last big tent problems;
anchoring the rainfly to the underlying poles. The
FlyBoy™ consists of a patch permanently affixed to
the fly and a plastic clip that clamps the body, poles,
and fly together into a single, unitized self-reinforcing
structure. Flyboy™ also accepts guyline to create a
stronger and more stable structure.

When a non-stretch piece of material is connected

from the bottom end of a tent pole to the middle of
the pole, like a bow, the pole has great difficulty
flattening. X-technology applies the bow concept
by using shorter bow sections to strengthen the
overall pole and then overlays a second set of bows
to achieve optimum strength and a completely
reinforced pole structure.

Arcedge Floor Construction

Tent floor/side seams have a catenary cut and are
sewn with bias binding on the inside of the tent. This
lifts the floor construction seams off the ground to
prevent water leakage.

LIGHTWEIGHT
SHELTERS
THIS TENT CAN BE SET UP USING ONLY THE TENT
FLY, POLES AND CORRESPONDING FOOTPRINT (SOLD
SEPARATELY) AS A LIGHTWEIGHT SHELTER FOR
WARM WEATHER.

NOTE: To make set up without the tent body easier,

we suggest setting the tent up with the body
and becoming familiar with the tent’s general
pole structure.

NOTES & TIPS
9/04

• Fire near your tent is a NO-NO. Your tent can burn. Never cook in
your tent or use candles for light inside.
• To minimize UV damage from the sun, don’t keep tent set up for long
periods of time or when not in use.
• If you pitch the tent in a wind, anchor the tent before you put the poles
in. Gear alone probably won’t hold down your tent even in winds as
light as 25mph. Many tents have been destroyed by unexpected winds
rolling them away with gear inside! In strong winds you will want to
anchor every stake loop and guyout.
• Leaving the fly on the tent when you take it down is sometimes handy.
Packing the tent and fly as a single connected unit speeds setup and
the tent will be immediately protected from rain when you pull it out
next time.
• Before packing you should dry out the tent and fly. This way you won’t
have to carry water rolled into the tent and it will help keep the tent
from mildewing.

TAKING DOWN YOUR TENT

• PUSH OUT TENT POLES STARTING FROM THE
SLEEVES CLOSED ENDS.
