Nitin Chandra: The Bihari National Award Filmmaker

Director Nitin Chandra who directed the Mithila film ‘Mithila Makhan’.This film has to
be released on 2nd October at Bejor Cinema(DST)following the pandemic. The director
also shared his experience of what difficulty he has to face while making and shooting
of the film.

Director Nitin Chandra shared about how he got the idea of making the film. He said
while visiting Bihar’s flood-prone area in the year 2008-09, he got the idea. He also
said that for understanding the problem he made rough planning. While talking about
the flood he said that this is the main reason for migration from the state. There is no
source for earning a living. North Bihar is a flood-prone area. He also said that for the
disabled the government should have provided some kind of job to earn a living.

This was the theme of the story for making the film. Later, he got a Singapore based
investor who helped him in making of the film. By 2013, the director wrote the story
of the film and kept searching for an investor to invest in his film. He sadly said that
he got no producer from his state to make his film. Nitin Chandra said he was lucky
that he met Sameer Kumar who produced his film with the help of other technologies.

Nitin Chandra, the director of the film said that making the film was a big challenge
for him. The film shooting was to be done in Toronto where the climate was a big
issue. He said that climate being the issue he later shouted in the streets of Toronto
and did gorilla shooting inside the metro. He also said he will remember the 7 days
shooting in Toronto.

The director thanked the DOP Justin Chamber for shooting his film. Niagra Falls
shooting scene is real in the film. Later, we came to Bihar to shoot for summer as it
was +45degree in Bihar. We came from -35to +45degree.He also explained that he
did not want to compromise on the scenes of films to be shown. We shot the India
and Nepal scenes in just 25-28 days.

The cast of the film was not easy to get into film, especially for the female cast. Kranti
Prakash Jha and Anurita K Jha are the main lead in the film. Kranti Prakash Jha was
selected by the director as he has done a film ‘Deshwa’with him before. Anurita K Jha
has done GOW and when approached for the film. She liked the thought of the film
and agreed to do the film. Pankaj Jha was selected for the negative role as per the
character.

‘Mithila Makhan’ received the National Award. The director Nitin Chandra was very
excited after getting the award. He said that it’s every director’s dream to get the
award. He was very unsure about getting the award as he thought that the film DVD
hasn’t reached the office. But later was very happy after the announcement of the
award.
