11 – Midship – 21st CL Mrs. Priscila

Estanislao

EXAMPLES OF COMEDY:

1.) Ang Tanging Ina

 The story revolves around the ups and downs of being a single mother, Ina (Ai-Ai Delas
Alas), the main protagonist. Her three husbands leave her with 12 children and financial
problems to shoulder. A simple plot with a hilarious cast, packed with laughs and tear-
jerker scenes with movie/commercial spoofs, surely Ang Tanging Ina will delight every
heart. It is an example of comedy because it includes family humor.

2.) Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap

 Set in the imaginary Barangay Husay, Eman teams up with his two friends, Toto and
Carlo who start as the underdogs, failing at every opportunity to succeed in their small-
time scams. They then meet Nicoy who becomes part of Eman's group breaking the
tradition of having only 3 members per gang. It is considered a comedy because of its
dirty jokes.

3.) Tom and Jerry

4.) Oggy and the Cockroaches

EXAMPLES OF TRAGEDY

1.) Romeo and Juliet

 At the end of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo returns to Verona because he believes Juliet is
dead. When he arrives at her tomb, she appears lifeless, and in his grief, he kills himself
by drinking poison. Moments later Juliet wakes, and, finding Romeo dead, she plunges
his sword into her breast. It is considered a tragedy because both of the main characters
died at the end of the story.

2.) The Death of a Salesman

 In this story, the aging salesman named Willy Loman once believed that charisma,
obedience, and persistence would lead to prosperity. Now that his sanity is wearing thin,
and his son has failed to live up to his expectations, Loman determines that he is worth
more dead than alive. So, he killed himself at the end of the story.

3.) Titanic

EXAMPLES OF FARCE

1.) Home alone

 However, this movie also falls snugly into the farce category. The unlikely situation of a
family forgetting their child is a bit far-fetched; however, you have a laugh-out-loud
comedy classic when you throw in a couple of bumbling robbers and a house full of
traps.

2.) The Pink Panther

3.) Mr. Bean

EXAMPLES OF MELODRAMA

1.) Kadenang Ginto

 Kadenang Ginto is considered melodrama because of its exaggerated acting and usually
focuses on physical actions or fights rather than the story itself.

2.) Florante at Laura

 Florante at Laura is a shorter version of its original title, written in ancient Tagalog:
“Pinagdaanang Buhay ni Florante at ni Laura sa Cahariang Albania. Florante at Laura
was said to be the outcome of Balagtas’ heartbroken situation after losing the woman that
he loved the most whom he referred to as “Celia.” This is considered melodrama because
the story is now occurring on staged performance.

Musical Drama

1.) The greatest showman

 The greatest showman is a biographical musical about the life of a child as a circus and
entertainment producer. It is considered a musical drama because it includes singing,
dancing, acting, and musical plays all at the same tie.

2.) The Movie in My Mind (Miss Saigon)

 The Movie in My Mind presents the disenchanted side of the bargirls as they describe
how their hopes of a family and a new life remain despite being treated only like sex
objects by the GI soldiers. This is an example of musical drama because it encompasses
acting and singing at the same time.

3.) Bohemian Rhapsody
