ASSESSMENT ON THE PRACTICE OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

What is a CSR assessment?

- A CSR assessment evaluates a company's ability to integrate corporate social
responsibility (CSR) into its operations.
Why Conduct a CSR Assessment?
- The majority of businesses conduct these assessments at the request of their clients and
stakeholders. Upper management finds it difficult to make beneficial and informed
judgments due to a lack of information on corporate social responsibility.
How is the Assessment Carried Out?
- A CSR assessment generally involves the following steps:
1. Assemble a CSR leadership team;
2. Develop a working definition of CSR;
3. Identify legal requirements;
4. Review corporate documents, processes and activities;
5. Identify and engage key stakeholders.
EcoVadis Assessment and Rating Methodology
- There are many ways to conduct an assessment, but this is one way for a firm to evaluate
the full range of its operations through a CSR lens. The EcoVadis Assessment and Rating
Methodology captures and analyzes information and distills it into a scorecard with a
rating on a 0 to 100 scale. The methodology is based on the following principles:
1. Evidence Based
2. Industry, Location and Size Matter
3. Diversification of Sources
4. Technology Is a Must
5. Assessment by International CSR Experts
6. Traceability and Transparency
7. Excellence Through Continuous Improvement
Four CSR Themes
- The CSR assessment will show the main risks and opportunities that a business faces and
gives a thorough analysis of the following: How effective is the company’s strategy in
responding to emerging opportunities and issues? Where are the company’s strengths and
where does it have room to improve with regard to CSR? The answers to these questions
can provide valuable information to stakeholders.
1. Environment
2. Labor and Human Rights
3. Ethics
4. Sustainable Procurement
21 CSR Criteria
- When assessing a company CSR management system, it is important to define what are
the CSR issues covered by the management system. The assessments focus on 21 issues,
which are grouped into 4 themes. The 21 issues are based upon international CSR
standards such as the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. the International Labour
Organization (ILO) conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)’s standards, the
ISO 26000 standard, the CERES Roadmap, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business
and Human Rights, also known as the Ruggie Framework.
