I. Science Quiz
(Elementary Category)

A. Participants

1. The Division Virtual Scilympics Science Quiz will be open to both Public and
Private Schools for the different Programs:
a. Regular Program
b. Special Science Program
c. Alternative Learning System (ALS) Education Program
d. Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) Program
e. Madrasah Education Program/ Arabic Language and Islamic Values
Education (ALIVE) Program
f. Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Education Program

2. One (1) contestant per grade level per district per program will register.

B. Registration

1. Each District will have an Elimination not later than February 9, 2022.
2. The TOP 1 WINNER in the District Elimination will be qualified to compete in
the Division Level.
3. Registration of qualified participant for the DIVISION LEVEL SCIENCE QUIZ
should be made on or before February 10, 2022 for the finalization of the lists
per event.

5. After the registration, the coach who successfully registered the qualified

C. Coverage

The coverage of lessons for the Science Quiz Division Level will be 1st to 4th Quarter
of the MELC’s.

D. Applications and Gadgets

Qualified participants are required to have 1 Headset, 1 Laptop or PC and 1


Mobile Phone

Below are the applications to be installed and used during competition/contest:


1. SAFE BROWSER EXAM (Installation Link will be provided by the Host) =
pc/laptop
2. Edmodo Account (Account Room will be provided by the Host) = pc/laptop
3. Zoom Cloud App Meeting

E. Science Quiz Mechanics

1. Participants will be given a unique code to join Edmodo Room to take their
respective competition
2. Participants will use 2 gadgets, 1 CP (open CAM) for Zoom Cloud Meetings and
laptop for Safe Browser Exam-Edmodo LMS.
3. For quality environment in taking quiz competition, please choose a quiet place to
work without distractions.
4. Make sure to place a big mirror in front of you and place your Zoom Meeting CP -
Camera at your back fronting the mirror.
5. Participants should turn on the camera while microphone is open for monitoring
purposes.
6. Participants are required to wear headset/headphone during competition to very
clearly hear the Quiz Master in reading the instructions and questions.
7. The Edmodo LMS is set up for 1st attempt-final answer in all questions. It will not
allow participants to change and go back to previous questions.
8. The quiz will be of 15 questions (5 easy, 5 -average and 5-diffficult)
9. Strictly NO USING OF CALCULATOR, SEARCH ENGINE, DUAL MONITOR
AND OTHER APPLICATIONS during examination
10. Follow the time and schedule given to avoid delays. LATE COMERS will not be
entertained if the competition is ongoing

F. Do’s and Don’ts During Competition

1. LOG-IN to your Account on Zoom Meetings using your Mobile Phone.


2. LOG-IN to your Edmodo account using the SAFE BROWSER EXAM instructed
by your Quiz Master during competition.
3. Make sure you have strong internet connection and back-up data allowance (if in
case disconnection to internet) to avoid problems during the competition

4. Be sure to disable other application from your CP like messenger, FB, incoming
calls and others to avoid interruption while competition is on-going.
5. Please observe the given schedule
6. Your name should be in this format (Surname, Given Name, MI, School)
7. Do not close SBE-EDMODO if not instructed by the QUIZ MASTER. While you
are in SBE browser all other applications were restricted.
8. Coaches /parents/guardians and others are STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED to help
participant/s while competition is ongoing.
9. Do not close /refresh the application while the contest is ongoing.

G. Grounds for Disqualification

1. Use of calculators, Math Application and other forms of cheating


2. Coaching while taking the examination
3. Dishonesty

H. Scoring and Announcement of Winners

1. Participants who answer correctly will earn points in each question. 1 point- easy,
2 points- average and 3 points- difficult.

No more breaking of tie, instead if there are more than one contestant obtain the
same highest score, they will be proclaimed First Places. Same with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and
5th Places.

B. Mechanics/Guidelines

1. Poster-slogan design must be original and not previously published or have won
in a contest.
2. It must promote the values depicted in the theme of the event.
3. It must follow the specifications:

ePoster-Slogan size: W- 210mm H- 297mm


File size: maximum file size is 4MB
File format: save your file as PDF

4. Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Paint or any digital art software applications or


media should be used.
5. Elements should not include clip arts, downloaded images, photos, brand name,
logo, trademarks, and the like.
6. It should contain a combination of graphics and text.

7. Participant name or identifying mark must not appear on the ePoster-Slogan.


8. The Slogan should be written in English with not more than ten (10) words.
9. Each participating district should submit one entry only in soft copy (PDF format)
to the link.
10. Once submitted the SDO 1 Pangasinan reserves the rights to publish the
ePoster-Slogan on its social media platform.

Relevance to the Theme 30%

E. Prizes

1. The winning digital poster-slogans shall be announced through an official


communication.
2. There shall be three (3) winners in this Digital Poster-Slogan Making Contest, the
Third, Second and First Placers.

1. This is a virtual contest with singers and dancers as performers.This competition is open
to all elementary, junior and senior high school students from both public and private
schools in SDO1 Pangasinan. The contest is also open to the following inclusive
programs: a. Regular Program b. Special Science Program (SSES/STE) c. Special
Education (SPED) Program d. Alternative Learning System (ALS) Education Program e.
Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) Program e. Multigrade Education Program f.
Madrasah Education Program/Arabic language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE)
Program g. Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Education Program)

2. A minimum of two (2) to and a maximum of five (5) participants shall perform during the
contest. Participants must actually identify one singer and dancers who will perform
simultaneously.

3. The performance must consist of a song composed originally using rhythm of any song
and dance presentation related with this year’s theme “Depicting Science Inclusivity for
Proactive, Dynamic and Responsible Community”. Any song in English, Filipino or any
dialect may be used or a combination thereof may be utilized.

4. The presentation should last for a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of five (5)
minutes, in which period shall be included the technical preparation, introduction and the
exit of the performers.

5. The presentation must have environmental relevance, significance and related to


current issues.

6. Props should be at the minimum only.

7. Only one group shall represent a school.

8. Deadline for submission of entry is on February 8, 2022 (Tuesday) @ 5:00 pm through

9. The Evaluation and Selection Committee will review and score all the video entries
based on the criteria for judging found on the next page. There shall be ten (10) winners
per type of school and per category. The winning learners, coaches and the school shall
receive a Certificate of Recognition. All participating learners and coaches will receive
Certificate of Participation.

A. General Guidelines

District Level

Each participating school shall select their representative to the district by


school-based competition or selection with the objective of selecting one school entry
using the herein given criteria for judging.

Division Level

The winning school entry in the district shall be the participant for the Division
Virtual Scilympics EcoTechTalk Contest.

B. Participants

a. The contest is open to all bonafide students in the Schools Division Office I
Pangasinan. There shall be one (1) district representative per type of school (public; private);
per level (elementary; high school); per inclusive program, to wit:
1. Regular Program
2. Special Science Program (SSES/STE)
3. Special Education (SPED) Program
4. Alternative Learning System (ALS) Education Program
5. Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) Program
6. Multigrade Education Program

8. Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Education Program)

b. An official list of district representatives prepared by School In-charge of science


and certified correct by respective district supervisors shall be submitted to the management
and the TWG.

C. Contest Specifications:

1. Contestants will focus their piece on the Division Virtual Scilympics theme, “Depicting
Science Inclusivity for Proactive, Dynamic, and Responsible Community.”
2. The speech must be in English only.
3. Submission of entry must be in a pre-recorded video presentation and should be
between 2 to 3 minutes only.
4. Personal details or information of each entry must not be included in the pre-
recorded video.
5. The use of special effects and editing software/application that may enhance the
presentation is strictly prohibited. Strictly raw videos only.
6. There will be a corresponding deduction of one (1) point from the total score for every
10 seconds extension of the pre-recorded video.
7. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.

D. Criteria:

Presentation (50%)

a. Vocal Delivery (30%). Pronunciation, intonation, pitch, tone, projection, articulation,


and pace should be considered and employed to convey the ideas, mood, and argument
of the speech.

b. Manner of Speaking (20%). The speaker should give the appearance of relaxed self-
assurance and conviction. Movement, gesture, and facial expression should reinforce
the vocal delivery. Notes, when used, should be handled unobtrusively.

Content (50%)

a. Originality/Evidence/Information (30%). The judges will look for the speaker’s ability
to be original, to support arguments with evidence, and to supply information, with little
preparation time.

b. Organization (20%). The speech should have a clear beginning, middle, and end.
The judges will take into consideration whether the speech is introduced in an original
fashion, how well the subject matter is organized, and whether it is brought to a logical
conclusion.

A. General Guidelines
District Level
Each participating school shall select their representative to the district by school-
based competition or selection with the objective of selecting one school entry using the
herein given criteria for judging.

Division Level
The winning school entry in the district shall be the participant for the Division Sci-
lympics Essay Writing Contest

B. Participants
a. The contest is open to all bonafide students in the Schools Division Office I
Pangasinan. There shall be one (1) district representative per type of school

8. Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Education Program)


b. An official list of district representatives prepared by School In-charge of science
and certified correct by respective district supervisors shall be submitted to the
management and the TWG.

C. Specifications
a. The Essay Writing Contest is a virtual on-the-spot competition.
b. A subtopic related to the theme of the Sci-lympics shall be given to which the
participants shall write about. The subtopic shall be the uniform essay title for all
the participants and it shall be given during the contest proper.
c. All entries must be written in English and must have at least 250 words and must
not exceed 500 words. Languages other than English maybe used provided that
these will not exceed two (2) sentences, and must be italicized.
d. All essays must be original and previously unpublished. Ideas or data from other
individual or from relevant organizations shall be properly cited and
acknowledged. If the submitted essay is found to have been plagiarized, it will be
disqualified from the competition.
e. All entries will be judged based on content, originality, relevance, grammar and
quality of ideas.
f. All entries must follow the specification below:
Coupons : A4 bond paper shall be used by the participants to encode
their essay.
Margin : One (1) inch margin on all sides
Spacing : Double spaced
Font Style
and Size : Arial and font size 12.
g. The participants shall be given two (2) hours to write and finish their essay.
h. A unique code shall be given to participants which they will write as a footer in
their essay. The TWG or the management shall keep the said control list.
i. Entries shall be submitted to an email which shall be provided by the Technical
Working Group (TWG) for the contest or the management.
j. Additional guidelines which covers the technicalities of the contest such as but
not limited platform to be used, group chats may be promulgated by the TWG
and approved by the management in order to ensure the smooth flow of the
contest and to safeguard the reliability and integrity of the contest.
k. The decision of the Board of Judges is final. All participants are deemed to have
accepted all the rules and regulations of the contest.

D. Criteria for Judging:


1. Entries shall be judged unanimously by the Board of Judges.
2. Entries must reflect the true feelings and thinking of the contestants and shall be
judged according to the following criteria:

5. All creative visual tools such as animations, simulations, physical demonstrations, or


visual aids are allowed. List and cite all the resources used including but not limited
to images, audio, video clips, books, articles, etc. Use public domain sites for your
references and resources. Entries with photos and videos which are derivative works
will automatically be disqualified.
6. Each school may send ONLY one (1) official entry. The video must be uploaded to
YouTube.
7. Details of the entry must be submitted thru a Google Form link:
https://tinyurl.com/EVENTREGISTRATION-SIYENSIKULA not later than February 7,
2022, 5 PM. The following will be required upon submission: a) the name/s of the
participant/s, b) Youtube video link attachment of the video entry, and c) a pdf file of
the video script along with the references, in APA format (File name format:
SIYENSIKULA_Name of School). Entries with incomplete requirements will be
automatically disqualified.
8. The Evaluation and Selection Committee will review and score all the video entries
based on the criteria for judging found on the next page. The entry with the highest
percentage/score shall be declared as Champion (First Place) and will be given
Certificate of Recognition. Second Place and up to the Ninth Place will also be
recognized and will be given Certificate of Recognition. All participating learners and
coaches will receive Certificate of Participation.
9. This competition is heavily inspired by the International Breakthrough Junior

The showcase enables learners to apply science and thinking skills to solve
problems that have local, national, and global impact. It allows the participants to
become problem solvers by addressing social, scientific, and environmental issues
through the application of 21st century skills.

In the showcasing, the participants will be creating a 2-minute video presentation


proposing a solution to a given scenario.

G. Mechanics

For the video to be considered:

● be original footage or student created animation or combination of both.


● be maximum of 2 minutes in length (Including the credits)
● accurately use scientific, technological, and engineering concept in presenting
their solution.
● not include any copyrighted material in presentation (i.e., music and images).
● documented correctly/properly acknowledged all sources and relevant
copyright law has been followed.
● be filmed at home and follow existing IATF guidelines in effect in the
respective locality. Participants who will be working in pairs must collaborate
remotely.
● be engaging, creative and have strong narrative.
● target the public as the audience.

H. Showcase Guidelines
1. The video presentations will focus on the following scenarios/themes:
a. Natural Disasters (earthquakes, tsunami, volcanic eruption, typhoon,
etc.) and Climate Change/Global Warming
b. Agriculture and Food security
c. Environment and Natural Resources
d. Healthcare/Pandemics

2. Each district may submit one video per scenario/theme.

3. The participants may use the internet and other printed resources in
developing their video presentation provided relevant provisions of the copyright
law are followed.

4. The video presentations may consist of the following:


a. Plan of action that may be done on local or global scale to address the
challenges set in the scenario.
b. Detail key features of the proposed solution.
c. Challenges to resolve to effectively implement the proposed solution.
d. Proposed solution maybe similar or different from existing practices,
technologies, and solutions. If so, the video presentation shall include

5. All video presentations that are quality assured by their respective district will
be submitted through the google form. The video presentations will then be
uploaded in (internet) for public viewing.

6. Participants are required to submit parental consent to the event committee.

7. Each district shall submit their Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP) in this


STEMazing Contest. The material should be in high definition 1280 x 720 30 fps
video format or a video of good broadcasting quality in MP4 format. Follow the
sample file name: Event_School_2021DivisionVirtualScilympics (e.g.
STEMazing_PangasinanNHS_2021DivisionVirtualScilympics).

8. Deadline for submission of entry is on February 11, 2022 (Friday) @ 1:00PM
