SDA-Lesson-1-Attachments-Stimulating Activity (Quarter2)
Before going to the Active Reading section, do the following first to stimulate your
thinking. As a review to your Introduction to Literature class, write down your thoughts and
learnings of the following concepts. It is important that you do not research but gauge your
understanding of these concepts.
1. Prose:
The prose is a verbal or written language that follows the natural flow of speech.
It is the most common form of writing, used in both fiction and non-fiction. Prose comes
from the Latin “prosa oratio,” meaning “straightforward”. It also exhibits grammatical
structures. Examples of prose are novels, short stories, essays, etc.
2. Drama:
The most significant difference of these two entities is that drama refers to the
form of written literature that is intended for performance while play refers to a theatrical
performance. In simple words, drama is to be read and play is to be seen. In a drama, we
only read the dialogues and stage direction; we often imagine the performance in our
mind. But in play, the audience gets the chance to see the story enacted. Actually, both
are just connected with each other since drama is the written literature where play would
be based on.
