I am writing to apply for MSc programme in Water Science and Engineering with specialization

Groundwater and Global Change - Impacts and Adaptation. I have a Bachelor of Science degree
in Water Supply and Environmental Engineering (Formerly Sanitary Engineering) from
Arbaminch University, Ethiopia, and an M.Tech in Civil Engineering (Water Resources
Engineering & Management specialization) from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati,
India. Starting from my early age I wanted to be an Engineer. During my elementary school
times, I was a top-scoring student especially in the subjects of mathematics and sciences. As time
passed and I got to high school, I was getting attracted to the discipline of engineering science,
namely, Hydraulic engineering. This was primarily because I was able to realize the prevalent
impact of electric power technology in the day-to-day experience of the modern world which is a
design and constructed by hydraulic Engineering with other disciplines. I remember in high
school physics classes how the application of principles like Faraday’s law of induction,
Archimedes' principles of buoyance force have affected the way humans live today. I also
remember in my chemistry class my teacher made us realize how much we humans polluted the
environment and how to treat this environment with Physico-chemical and biological methods,
which is one of the greatest technological inventions of the 20th century. This invention has
changed every aspect of human life even the socio-cultural aspects. I think this was the time to
know what I have to be to leave my contribution to the world. My exceptional high interest in
helping the world around me to meet the demands of water in the future is contributed much to
my interest of study Water Supply and Environmental engineering. After completing high school
and getting an excellent score in the national university entrance examination, I joined Arba
Minch University and enrolled in Water Supply and Environmental Engineering department
which I spent the last four years. During the first three years of undergraduate study, I was
interested in the courses like Hydraulics-I, II & open channel, Ground Water, Hydrology, Water
supply and treatment, water quality management, wastewater Engineering-I, II, water treatment
Engineering, Environmental Engineering Lab-analysis-I, II, III, HS, Water resources planning
and Management. It was very interesting to see how mathematical equations govern and predict
the energy of water systems which I saw through different laboratory classes and experiments.
The courses offered in the fourth year boost my interest in the field of the water supply system. It
is really interesting to know about the general-purpose treatment of water and to supply for the
community. During these times we were able to solidify our theoretical understanding through
practical laboratory demonstrations and field internships. During the undergrad last semester
project work and BSc Thesis I was able to know more about the design of water structure and
how to realize theoretical into the real ground. This great interest in the subjects I study
contributed much to the First Class with dean list score that I got and to be university graduate
assistance from the school of civil and water resources engineering for my outstanding university
assistance selection achievement. I believe that Erasmus+ Programme is a great opportunity for
me because it satisfies my interests in Groundwater and Water Resources Engineering. The
background knowledge I have in Water Resources Engineering, hydrology, water treatment, and
environmental Engineering match with the requirement of the courses that will be taken in the
Erasmus+ Programme. The program quality which is run by European leading institutions which
provides various specialization options and the strong research ties of the institutions with the
industries is also another aspect that attracts me to the Erasmus+ Programme. The mobility of the
program is also advantageous for me to know the diversity of learning and research styles and
academic. So, the program seemed to me as the right ambiance to mature my research interest
and work towards my goal. After I complete my PhD., I plan to pursue my postdoc in this field
and eventually I look forward to a career in committed research where I cannot only use my
academic background to achieve my research goals but also make original scientific
contributions to my poor developing country and mankind in general. Bearing this goal in mind,
I believe that the MSc programme in Water Science and Engineering with specialization
Groundwater and Global Change - Impacts and Adaptation program would provide me with the
opportunity to attend advanced courses, to equip me with research methods, and be the stepping
stone to my career in research. I consider the chance to study in this prestigious program a major
step in the realization of my dreams, a responsibility to work hard and lay a strong foundation for
my career in research and get me on my two feet to be well on the way to become a first-rate
researcher.
Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely yours,
