Sub: Depression over southwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a Deep Depression
The Depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwards with a speed of about 15
kmph during last 06 hours, intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered at 1730 hrs IST of today,
the 4th March 2022, over the same region near latitude 10.0°N and longitude 82.7°E, about 220 km
northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 320km east-southeast of Nagappattinam (Tamil Nadu), 380 km east-
southeast of Puducherry (Tamil Nadu) and about 420 km south-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
It is likely to move northwestwards off east coast of Sri Lanka till 5th March morning and then move west-
northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu Coast during subsequent 36 hours.

• Sea condition will be very rough over Southwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar
and Comorin area and along & off Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & south Andhra Pradesh coasts during 4 – th
6 March.

Distant Cautionary Signal No.1 (DC-I) hoisted at Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Nizampatnam and
Krishnapatnam ports and Distant cautionary signal number one (DC-I) with section signal number-IV at
Kakinada and Gangavaram ports.
EXPECTED IMPACT & ACTION SUGGESTED due to very heavy rain over south coastal Andhra
Pradesh and Rayalaseema during 6th -7th March.

➢ Localized Flooding of roads, inundation and water logging in low lying areas.
➢ Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.
➢ Disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.
➢ Minor damage to kutcha roads.
➢ Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structure.
➢ Localized Landslides/Mudslides
➢ Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to squally wind and inundation.
B. Action Suggested
➢ Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
➢ Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
➢ Avoid going to areas that face the water logging problems often.
➢ Avoid staying in vulnerable structure.
