Rapido is an online mobile application, It is an Indian origin based company and currently
serving only in India. It is a bike taxi company, where one can ride solo, book a quick ride with
driver. Rapido is a cheapest, fastest and most convenient way to communicate within the cities.
And Rapido was the one company who first introduces the concept of two wheeler taxi service in
the country. The purpose of this report was to analyze the work model of the company, factors or
conditions affecting the drivers, etc. The study is based on primary data collected through the
field survey and direct questionnaire to the respondents in Patna. The survey was carried out
during the month of March 2021. The overall analysis of the study reveals that most of the
drivers who are serving as a Rapido captain are a part-time service provider and mostly they are
students or some are having a side business. And, most of the Rapido captains having an
Intermediate degree. The most amazing thing in the data is that there were no female drivers in
the city Patna, who are serving as a captain for Rapido. And most of the drivers said that Rapido
has captured a large market of bike taxi service provider in Patna and also they are the one who
provides a huge benefits rather than other bike taxi service provider. Company also covers life
insurance of drivers as well as of customers while on service. Most of the respondents said that,
they always have to face the issue of traffic in the city Patna while serving, which creates
problem in pickup or dropping of customers.

The problems which the driver have to face from the company side is that, the company
sometimes delay in providing salary to the captains, which they get from online mode. And
sometimes poor net connectivity in some region creates problem for the drivers for which they
have to suffer lack of smoothness in the work of booking or completing ride.

The introduction of Rapido benefited the student to earn pocket money, people to earn extra
income. It not only benefited the drivers but also to the users, those who are availing the service
of Rapido, they easily and comfortably reach to the destination without taking extra time which
they have to face through the public transports.

Introduction
Rapido is an online and largest bike taxi service company in
India. The company was founded in 2015 in Bengaluru. It
operates in more than 90 cities across the country. There trade
name is „Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited‟.

Earlier in the year 2015, Rapido was formerly named as

TheKarrier and was founded by two IIT alumni and a PESU alumni – Aravind Sanka, Pavan
Guntupalli, and SR Rishikesh. At, that time the company TheKarrier was providing truck
services within cities on demand, started as a technology platform to organize the fragmented
last-mile logistics industry, and runs on a pay-by-kilometer model.

This company offers unique features where one can ride solo, book a quick bike with driver and
rate the driver as well. Rapido is the cheapest, fastest and most convenient way to commute in
the metro cities always packed with traffic. With over 10+ Million happy customers and 50+
Million rides on this app, Rapido is changing the intra-city travel and is providing last-mile
connectivity at affordable fares. Having over 1 Million Captains (drivers), this bike Taxi booking
app provides fast transport on bikes, which are easy to wade through other vehicles in the traffic
and far more economical than other cab booking apps.

The company has sky rocketed into fame in the few years of its launch and was appreciated by
huge investors in the region. They recently made headlines when they earmarked ₹200 Crore for
marketing budgets. In 2019, Rapido co-founder Aravind Sanka claimed that the company has
created more than 500,000 jobs in India.

The bike taxi service has raised funds in pre-series round of funding led by Pawan Munjal,
Chairman and CEO of Hero Motocorp Ltd. He envisions a significant growth in this transport
based service, as it is a good source of hassle-free life for masses and increase in employment
scale. Aravind Sanka, the founder of Rapido has stated that these funds will be used for the
growth and expansion of the company and team in other leading cities. Former Google India

head Rajan Anandan has also stake in Rapido.

This app has multiple modes of booking which includes missed call booking service. It has
around 1000+ bikes in operation. Its hiring process is also well monitored, wherein the rider has
to go through a comprehensive test ride process, his vehicle is inspected, documents are verified
and mandatory training is given before he is taken onboard.
According to the team, 85 % of its services are from repeated customers and 10% of them are
women. Rapido has huge scope of growth in current market as on-demand two-wheeler taxi
service seems to be an interesting model. The factor that the company follows stringent checks
and strict penalties to ensure safe transportation also makes it more reliable. So do not get

Literature Review
Rapido is the nextgen product which aims to disrupt the way people travel intracity, brought to
you by a bunch of IITians looking to make life easier for people. With the urban population
growing at a rapid pace, there is a dire need to solve for the ever-growing intracity traffic. Thus,
a faster, economical and safe way which also reduces traffic and carbon footprint is the need of
the hour. Rapido is basically a platform where you can book a bike ride through a mobile app
while traveling solo. The difference in the economics of a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler
allows you to save up to 60% of your ride cost when you‟re traveling solo. With the traffic
situation exceptionally pathetic especially during peak hours, zipping past in a two-wheeler saves
a lot of time. What‟s more, is that it also provides an opportunity for people with a two-wheeler
(along with the license) to become a rider on the platform and earn some extra money in their
spare time. And all this with just a tap of a button! Leveraging the cutting-edge state-of-the-art
technology to make the life of an urban city dweller much easier and convenient is what we‟ve
set out to do.

Research Methodology
Introduction:

The study is based on the primary data generated through field survey and direct
interview to the respondents in Patna in the month of March 2021. On the basis of
simple random sampling, a sample of 50 Rapido Captain(bike taxi drivers) randomly
were selected and interviewed for detail information regarding their service and
company. The direct questionnaire method was used to gather information from the
respondents. The collected data were tabulated and analyzed with the simple statistical
technique.
Simple Random Sampling:

In a statistical study, sampling methods refer to how we select members from the
population to be in the study.
If a sample isn't randomly selected, it will probably be biased in some way and the data
may not be representative of the population.
A simple random sample is a subset of a statistical population in which each member of
the subset has an equal probability of being chosen. A simple random sample is meant
to be an unbiased representation of a group.

Research Design:

Research design provides the glue that holds the research project together. A
design is used to structure the research, to show how all of the major parts of the
research project work together to try to address the central questions. This study is
descriptive study. Descriptive research designs help provide helps answers to the
questions of who, what, when, where and how associated with a particular

18 | P a g e
research problem. Descriptive study is used to obtain information concerning the
current status of the phenomena and to describe “what exists” with respect to
variables or conditions in a situation.

Research Instrument:

The research instrument used for the study is questionnaire and statistical software-
Microsoft Excel.

A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions and

other prompts for purpose of gathering information from respondents.

Data Collection:

In dealing with any real-life problem it is often found that data at hand are
inadequate, and hence, it becomes necessary to collect data that are appropriate.
There are several ways of collecting the appropriate data which differ considerably
in context of money costs, time and other resources at the disposal of the researcher.

Personal Interviews:
Personal interview method requires a person known as the interviewer asking
questions generally in a face-to-face contact to the other person or persons. (At times
the interviewee may also ask certain questions and the interviewer responds to these,
but usually the interviewer initiates the interview and collects the information.) This
sort of interview may be in the form of direct personal investigation or it may be an
indirect oral investigation. In the case of a direct personal investigation the interviewer

19 | P a g e
has to collect the information personally from the sources concerned. He has to be on
the spot and has to meet people from whom the data have to be collected. The method
of collecting information through personal interviews is usually carried out in a
structured way. As such, we call the interviews as structured interviews. Such
interviews involve the use of a set of predetermined questions and of highly
standardized techniques of recording. Thus, the interviewer in a structured interview
follows a rigid procedure laid down, asking questions in a form and order prescribed.

Area of Study:

Patna is the capital and largest city of the state of Bihar in India. Patna is the second-
largest city in eastern India after Kolkata. It is located on the south bank of the river
river Ganga. It is well connected by railway and road. It is mainly an administrative
and educational centre of Bihar. It has however a few ancient sacred places as also
places of tourist interest. It had an estimated population of 5.8 million (Male:-
30,78,512 & Female:- 27,59,953), making it the 19th largest city in India.. The city is
approximately 3,202 Sq. Km..

20 | P a g e
Data Analysis:

Since it is not easy to analyze the huge amount of data on paper itself. So, the whole
work of data analysis has been done in Microsoft Excel. Most of the data collected
would be presented in the tabular form and then expressed in graphical manner for
easy and clear understanding. Other statistical methods like countif(), countra(), sum()
etc. has been used wherever necessary in Microsoft Excel.

Processing of Data (Preparing data for analysis):

Editing: Editing of data is a process of examining the collected raw data to detect
errors and omissions and to correct these when possible.
Coding: Coding refers to the process of assigning numerals or other symbols to
answers so that responses can be put into a limited number of categories or classes.
Classification: Most research studies result in a large volume of raw data which
must be reduced into homogeneous groups if we are to get meaningful relationships.
This fact necessitates classification of data which happens to be the process of
arranging data in groups or classes on the basis of common characteristics.
Tabulation: When a mass of data has been assembled, it becomes necessary for the
researcher to arrange the same in some kind of concise and logical order. This
procedure is referred to as tabulation.

21 | P a g e
Hypothesis
The hypothesis which is generated here is a simple hypothesis method, which predicts relation
between the two variables: the independent variable and the dependent variable.

i. The bike taxi concept has ease the travelling in terms of efficiency.
ii. Increase in solo travelling affects the other public transport.
iii. Increase in bike taxies leads to increase in pollution level.
iv. Solo travelling is somewhat safe in this covid pandemic from those gathered public
transports.

Problems
Some of the problems arise due to the impact of Rapido are as follows:

1. Due to increase of more bike taxi in the city, the level of pollution will increase rapidly.
2. Captains are not getting their salary on time which customers give through online mode.

public transports like bus, auto rickshaw, e-rickshaw, etc.

47 | P a g e
Suggestions
Some suggestions to improve the service of Rapido for their captains and for customers are as
follows:
1. Company should provide hair caps with the helmets to the captain for the hygiene of
customers.
2. Rapido Captains should try to minimize calling to confirm for the rides and locations. As,
it irritates the customer always asking it. As before accepting the ride of any customer,
the pick-up & drop-up locations are mentioned in the captains mobile application.
3. Company should work on the application, for working smoothly as it sometime takes
delay.
4. It has seen that the customer service of Rapido is very poor, as they don‟t provide any
medium of customer care facility through calling.
5. The fare seems to be high, to increase the users to use application regularly. The
company should introduce a discount pass for the customers who rides regularly.

Conclusion
The introduction of bike taxi company Rapido in the country is a step towards Digital India.
Earlier there was only cab (4 wheeler) service available in the country. By which users have to
pay the same fare whether they ride solo or with more than one people. Through Rapido this
issue was solved for those individuals who ride in compulsion solo with cab. Now they don‟t
have to pay high fare of the cabs. And, they also reach to their destination faster than the cab and
also they abstain from the long traffic of city. In some manner, Rapido has changed the lives of
public and gave a new mode of transportation.

The strategy of Rapido helps individuals, who wanted to earn extra income and work as part-
timer. The work time of captains are not fixed, whenever they want they can start by accepting
rides on applications. The earning statement of Rapido Captains is: The more you serve the more
you earn! It is depend on the captain when they are free and when they want to work. The
company also offers some open task for the captains, if they complete the rides in within time
then they earn extra remuneration from the company.

The study recommends the company to work on the side of Rapido captains, who are facing the
difficulties in serving the customers. As current version of Rapido application sometimes takes
time and also everywhere there is not a proper connection of internet, by which customer as well
as captains have to face long duration of waiting in booking or in payment.
