Visual Observations:
For Smoke:
Is smoke observed only at the time of first starting and then goes away after running for
some time? Yes / No.
Check colour of smoke – Blue/Black/White
Check for oil droplets in smoke – Yes/No
Check for smoke colour change during acceleration/deceleration – change / no change.
Check for oil level in sump – Ok / Less (mention as indicated on dipstick)
Check smoke after readjusting carburetor settings – improvement / No improvement
Spark plug condition – Ok / Not Ok (mention, if clogged, Wet, Colouration etc.)
For Sound:
Is sound mechanical – Yes / No.
Is sound of fuel detonation / knocking – Yes / No.
Does sound increase on acceleration / deceleration – Yes/No.
Does sound reduces after running for 5 minutes – Yes / No.
External Leakages
Thereafter check for external leakages – mention place of leakage / quantity of oil dripping.
Note: 1.If mechanical sound comes during acceleration / deceleration engine need
dismantling.
2. If smoke does not reduces on carburetor adjustment, engine should be dismantled.
