Tet Nguyen Dan, commonly-known by Vietnamese as Tet Nguyen Dan, is an important

and most popular holiday in Vietnam. The official Tet holiday lasts for two to three days,
but Vietnamese usually extend the period of their vacation for one to two weeks to enjoy
this special event. These days, everyone welcomes the new year with wishes about good
health, everything and success. I'm really like Tet for many reasons: a warm & happy
atmosphere and a special occasion for Vietnamese families to reunite and get together.

Firstly, the preparation for Tet is very exciting. It was done very early because it required
many steps. All family members clean and redecorate the house together. After that, they
buy food and drinks such as cakes, candies, melon seeds, fruits, jams, ... to store as many
shops and restaurants are closed on this occasion. In addition to buying things, many
Vietnamese families also make “bánh chưng” (sticky rice cake filled with green beans and
pork fat), also known as banh tet, pickled onions, and meat or which is a traditional dish
of Vietnam on Tet.

Second, the New Year's Eve celebrations are warm and wonderful. Everyone was more
and more excited when Tet was very close. Everyone waits for the sacred moment of New
Year's Day to wish health, success and happiness. Most of the people living in the cities
liked to celebrate at the fireworks display. While people living in the countryside prefer to
spend time at home with their family, sing together, eat and have fun together.

Besides that, during the first three days of the new year, Vietnamese people visit relatives
to wish for a new year with good health and good luck. They visit relatives from both
sides of the family and pay homage to different generations. The kids in the new outfits
are very excited, as they get lucky money from the adults. Gift money represents good
wishes for the young generation for a rich life. Moreover, people coming from afar, many
leaving the city to flock to the countryside. Vietnamese people living abroad or far from
their homeland also try to make a special return trip to make their mark on this holiday.
On these special days, Vietnamese people often go to the pagoda at the beginning of the
year to pray for their family to have a prosperous and full new year, especially for the
good health wishes for parents, families, relatives.

In conclusion,Tet is a time for families to gather together and welcome new beginnings.
Tet is my favorite festival because I enjoy many delicious dishes and a cozy atmosphere
when all family members get together. I like the feeling of every New Year because it
makes our family get together, share beautiful memories.

Thank you for reading.

Best wishes.
