in Romantic Period

Lesson 2
What I Have Learned

Activity 3: enhancement activity for understanding

Complete the following unfinished sentences:

1. My understanding of the romantic period is that the nineteenth century's music, commonly known as the Romantic
period, was distinct from that of preceding centuries. Fans were wowed by highly emotional music that featured all
sorts of extremes, including conflicting dynamic levels, during the Romantic period. Romantic composers enjoyed a
good story as much as everyone else. Once upon a time, opera was the most popular form of musical storytelling.
During the Romantic period, however, some composers used instrumental music to connect with their audiences on a
deeper level, focused on creating musical stories without the use of a singer or lyrics. Composers have to create
extremely emotional music without lyrics to communicate the general moods and plot points of a novel. Despite the
fact that these songs were produced over a century ago, the sentiments they express are still widely recognized by
viewers today, which is why Romantic-era music is frequently utilized in the background of films, ads, and television
shows.

2. I realized that most of the instrumental music from the Romantic period are piano and violin. On the majority of
their works, Frederic Chopin and Franz Liszt favored piano. In their compositions, Camille Saint-Saens and Piotr Ilyich
Tchaikovsky used violin and cello. Percussion instruments such as the xylophone, cymbals, marimba, bass drums,
timpani, and snare drum are among the others. Flute, piccolo, clarinet, bassoon, oboe, and saxophone are examples of
woodwind instruments. Trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, and euphonium are brass instruments. Finally, there
are stringed instruments including the violin, double bass, cello, viola, and harp. The orchestra plays these instruments
throughout the most well-known composers' musical concerts, operas, and theater performances. Music was seen by
Romantic Period composers as a medium of personal and emotional expression. In actuality, they considered music as
the most capable art form for expressing the entire range of human emotions.

3. I love listening to romantic music compositions because it is well renowned for its structural design independence,
which allows for a more personal and emotive approach. Nowadays, youthful brains like mine are more receptive to
modern renditions and applications of this type of music. Romantic music compositions are very traditional, and they
use strong rhythms and melodies, as well as passionate emotions, to convey messages and feelings. That is also one of
the reasons why I appreciate listening to the music and reading the lyrics. It's also incredibly nice to listen to romantic
music while it's pouring. Romantic music compositions are very classic, and the way they convey message and feeling
is quite powerful, with strong rhythms and melodies, as well as passionate emotions. Romantic composers pursued
intense emotional expression, sharing their innermost ideas and feelings constantly. Romantic music isn't just about
love; it's also about hate and death. Romantic music, in my opinion, is gentler on the hearing and does not necessitate
the use of a subwoofer to convey its message. I like how classical music uses chords in a more varied way than most
contemporary electronic popular music. Musicians who have been practicing for years are often required to perform
virtuosity in Romantic music. Also, romantic music has a far wider variety of moods and dynamics—not just loud and
soft, quick and slow, but everything in between.
