SERV2021 - 08/14 -2- Module 4 - Tank Pump PMS

MODULE DESCRIPTION

• Module objective This module is designed to introduce the 6050 Hydraulic Mining Shovel tank and
Pump Mangement System (PMS). The location of the tank and PMS components
will be detailed in this module. A lab exercise will be used for skill development and
knowledge check.

• Competency statement At the completion of this module, participants will be required to successfully
complete a summative group assessment by answering five oral questions at an
accuracy rate of at least 80%.

At the completion of this module, participants will be required to successfully

complete a written assessment at an accuracy rate of at least 80%.

• Classroom/lab ratio This module includes 70% theory (classroom) and 30% practical (lab).

• Audience Level II--field service personnel, resident mechanics, Technical communicators,

shop technicians and customers. All participants should have at least three years of
field or shop experience with hydraulic systems.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• Module learning outcome The 6050 Hydraulic Mining Shovel Tank Pump PMS module is designed to
introduce the tank and pump PMS and to identify the location and operation of the
components.

• Visual presentation Participants will take notes on the features of the tank and pump PMS, as well as
the location and function of each component during a visual presentation of the
Tank Pump PMS module.

• Lab 1 Given the appropriate reference material and the Lab 1 Worksheet, the participant
will be able to locate and identify the tank and PMS components.

• Post-Assessment Given all reference material and class notes, the participant will be able to identify
the function of the components in the tank and PMS system during a Post-
Assessment.

6050 Hydraulic Mining Shovel Main Hydraulic Pumps and Hydraulic Tank Post-Assessment
Instructions: M
atch each of the items in the left column with the functional description in the right column by writing in the
appropriate letter next to that item.

Hydraulic tank A. Keep the return oil pressure at approximately 12 bar (175 psi).

Isolation valves B. Provide oil flow to move the implement cylinders and drive the
travel motors.

Back pressure (preload) valves C. Stores the oil for the machine hydraulic system.

Main hydraulic pumps D. Controls the pump output flow by regulating the current to the
pump proportional valves.

Pump Management System E. Provides oil flow to the actuator piston.

Swing charge pump F.

Limits the maximum system pressure for any given pump
displacement.

Pump proportional valve G. Provides start up minimum oil flow to the main pump and to the
compensator valve.

Compensator valve H. Upstrokes or destrokes the hydraulic pump.

Actuator piston I. Used to shut off the oil flow from the tank to the three suction ports
of the hydraulic pumps.

Pressure cutoff valve J. Sends a signal when an implement or travel function is activated.
