FL6 with D6B 180 – 250 hp

Fault tracing on D6B engines

Concerns:
FL6 with D6B 180 – 250 hp.

Problem:
Intermittent stops and performance complaints. Experienced fault modes as a
complement to Service Bulletin 230-80 or Identity 40635244 in Impact.

Reason:
Unnecessary replacement of parts.

Action:
Intermittent stops:
· Check earth wiring to tachograph and especially connectors behind battery box and
glove box. New routing of cables introduced in production from week 343 together with a
limphome function in latest released software of Dataset 1.
· Check cable terminals and their clamping forces in connector AC, EA, EB and EM.

Engine do not start:

· Check (listen to) the electrical fuel feed pump that is fed by +24V from relay 3091, and
earth from pin 10 in EECU connector (for 5 seconds after key-on).
· Check fuel feed pressure (according to SB 230-80 page 5) during cranking with
VCADS-PRO (pressure between -20 up to +30 kPa).
· Check Overflow Valve (Bosch p/n 1 467 445 007) according to SB 230-80, page 6,
(opening pressure 100 kPa).
· Measure internal pressure in the VP44 injection pump, with a 0 – 25 bar pressure
gauge (test nipple shown in picture 2). Pressure during cranking > 2 bar.

Poor performance:
· Misfiring on high revs: Check the electrical fuel feed pump as described above.
· Lack of power/high fuel consumption: Check feed pressure with running engine
(according to SB 230-80 page 5) with VCADS-PRO (pressure between -20 up to +80
kPa).Measure internal pressure in the VP44 injection pump, with a 0 – 25 bar pressure
gauge (test nipple shown in picture 2). Pressure at idle > 5 bar, at high idle > 17 bar.

Fault code MID 128, PID 78 FMI 4:

· The fault code is only active during cranking, and the reason is most probably a faulty
fuel pressure sender.
