“FRANKENSTEIN” – Mary Shelly

At the age of nineteen, Mary Shelley published Frankenstein, her horrific book
published over two centuries ago. As a result, it's now considered a canonical work of
English literature. It was the title that pulled me to this book, not the story itself.

There's an unexpected incident where they're trapped on the ice, and that's the time
where Captain Robert Walton and his sailors meet Victor Frankenstein during their
voyage to the north pole. Victor was pale when they met, and they gave him a warm
meal, warm blankets, and a hot tea. Victor is stuck in the middle of cold arctic seas
because chasing someone who ran away from him. Walton and Victor became very
friends. Walton shares his stories with Victor, and they become emotional. Victor wants
to help Walton find his way, and he decides to share with him his whole story. Victor's
story talks about where his father meets Caroline, his mother, and his great friend
Beaufort was also Caroline's father. Victor was born in Naples, Italy, and his parents
came from Geneva, Switzerland. They were happily married after Beaufort died caused
by illness.

When he was five years old, they visited Lake Como. His mother meets Elizabeth,
an orphan, during their visit. That's how beautiful Elizabeth Lavenza came to live as part
of their family. They returned to Geneva after his brother Ernest was born. They met
Henry Clerval, a fun-loving friend of the two. The three became best friends. Years
passed, the love of his mother turned into tragedy. Victor's mother had a fever taken from
Elizabeth that caused her to death. But before she dies, she wants to see Victor and
Elizabeth marry each other. Both were not surprised by their mother's request becau se
they already knew they had ended up together. Elizabeth told Victor that the sooner he
finished school, the sooner they could be married. He traveled to Ingolstadt to study
science and meet Professor Krempe, who helped and taught him. Victor was obsesse d
with life and death and decided to create a man. After seeing the creature moving, he ran
so fast until Henry saw him and talked to his apartment.

A year passed, Victor got a letter from his father. At first, he was happy not until it
said that William, his brother, was murdered. Victor didn't know what to do, and his tears
sprang to his eyes. Victor wants to go home, and Henry gives him a long hug and a
tearful goodbye. When he got home, he saw his brother Ernest already awake and sitting
in the living room. They talk about what happens. William's nanny, Justine, was accused
of murdering William, but their family didn't believe and defend Justine. Victor already
knows who killed his brother, and it's his creature. The monster killed William because of
hatred towards Victor for bringing him into this world that's no one loves him. The love
of Victor for his family made him do a second creature. When the female creature was
almost complete, Victor suddenly changed his mind because of many what-ifs. He broke
the promise he made with the monster.
Victor thinks the monster might hurt his family and packed everything into the
small sailboat off into the open water. And suddenly he met a crowd of people pointing
out that victor killed a man who was found dead last night and the only person who has
seen come to town is Victor. They tell Victor that he needs to see Mr. Kirwin, the judge.
After they talked, the judge decided that Victor must see the boy and wanted to see his
reaction. Victor found out that the boy they're talking about is his best friend, Henry
Clerval. Victor fell to the floor because he couldn't take the pain he felt when he saw the
body of his friend. Victor spent three months in prison and returned to Geneva with his
father. They talked about his wedding, but Victor was against it because the monster said
he would be there on his wedding night. Victor has no choice but to agree because they
love each other and fulfill his mother's request. He will do everything to make sure no
harm will come to Elizabeth. They left the morning after they got married for their
honeymoon. At the same time, Victor checked every corner of the Inn and the empty
rooms to see if the monster was there, not until he heard the scream of Elizabeth. He ran
so fast and cried when he saw his wife's dead body in bed.

Victor wants to end what he started and raced out of the Inn. The monster left a
note to Victor, and it said that he wanted Victor to follow him to the icy kingdom of the
Arctic. And that's the time Captain Walton meets Victor Frankenstein. However, Victor
is very sick, and soon after, he dies on the ship of Captain Walton. The monster came. He
was sorry, cried out in pain, and blamed himself for what happened to Victor. He ran and
jumped out onto an ice floe, and the wave took him away. It was finally over, just as
Victor wanted. Captain Walton will remember Victor, the monster, and the terrible story
in his whole life. He turned his ship and headed back home.

Writing a novel requires what your audience or reader wants to read. The genre of
this novel is fiction, but a Lil bit of horror. If not from the displeasure of God, then at
least from our own emotions and perceptions, making a human being experimentally is
risky. The risks you choose to take are the consequences of your actions.

The good thing about this novel is that we need to preserve the importance of
having a family and friendship, and it's not too late. This novel also wants to convey a
message to those who don't have time for their loved ones. The most important aspect
of having a family is a sense of affiliation and unconditional love. Overall, I'm sad
because the protagonists of the story died. I know not all story has a happy ending, just
like Frankenstein, and they don't die without reason.
