Even though time has passed by after the long war, still some women headed families
managie life alone, grieve and are unable to pay interest in their day to day livelihood
work involvement.
The survivor group of the
Human Rights Office Kandy
visited the Women Headed
Families in Mulankavil and
Thevanpitti in Kilinochchi
District last year and shared their experiences .The Kandy
survivor group met them again in May for a follow up
program of Healing of Memories.
The team met the Women Headed Family members in the
church. With the happy memories of last year they were very enthusiastic looking forward in meeting the Kandy
group.
It was a time of re- strengthening the bonds of friendship and deeper sharing of life experiences. With group exercises
they slowly entered to the session on Healing of memories.
The climax of the session was the lighting of the oil lamps in remembrance of the dead and to say “GOOD BYE” to
their loved ones.

The lamp created from the mother earth signifies sustenance of life, the
importance of motivation and newness of spirit despite of all the losses they
have gone through.
The possibility was open for them to rise up again and stand on their two
feet with hope, courage and strength.

Women headed families lit their lamps in honor of the lost ones. There were tears in their eyes. Hopefully they will
become tears of joy in some day.
