A320 System Control

Overhead Panel

August 2017
TEST : The display shows all 8's. FAULT light :
TK/GS : The display shows true track and ground speed. Steady : The respective IR is lost.
PPOS : The display shows present latitude and longitude Flashing : The attitude and heading may be recovered in ATT mode.
WIND : The display shows true wind direction and speed
HDG : The display shows true heading and the minutes remaining ALIGN light :
until alignment is completed. Steady : The respective IR is operating normally in align mode.
STS : The display shows an action code. Flashing : IR alignment fault, or

IR 1(2)(3) Mode rotary sel


OFF : The ADIRU is not energized. ADR & IR data are not

NAV : Normal mode of operation. Supplies full inertial data to
aircraft systems. OFF light : Air data output disconnected.
ATT : IR supplies only attitude and heading information, if the FAULT light : Fault is detected in the air data reference part.
system loses its ability to navigate.

The heading must be entered using:


- The CDU keyboard, or
- The MCDU (if the entry field is available).
The heading has to be reset frequently (about every 10 min).

ELAC Pushbutton
ON : ELAC 1(2) performs its functions
OFF : The corresponding computer is not active. FAC pushbutton
OFF then ON, resets the computer. ON : FAC performs its functions
FAULT : Comes on amber, along with an ECAM caution: OFF : The corresponding computer is not active. Switching it OFF,
- When a failure is detected and then ON, resets the computer.
- During ELAC power-up test (eight seconds). FAULT : Failure is detected

SEC 1(2)(3) pushbutton


ON : SEC performs its functions
OFF : The corresponding computer is not active. Switching it OFF,

COMMAND pb (guarded)
Horn shutoff just to silence cockpit horn CAPT and PURS : The alert may either be activated from the cockpit or
ON :
In the cockpit : the cabin.
HORN Shut OFF
- EVAC light flashes red. CAPT : The alert may only be activated from the cockpit.
Pressing this button silences the cockpit horn.
If one of the cabin CMD pb is pressed, only the cockpit horn sounds for

Note: If ILS 1 fails, only mode 5 is inhibited. Consequently, the FAULT light does
not come on and the GPWS FAULT warning is not triggered.
OFF : Inhibits the Terrain Awareness Display (TAD) and Terrain
Clearance Floor (TCF), doesn't affect basic GPWS mode 1-5.
G / S MODE OFF : Glideslope mode (mode 5) is inhibited.
FAULT : The TAD or TCF mode fails. The terrain is not shown on
the ND . The basic GPWS mode 1 to 5 still operative FLAP MODE OFF:“TOO LOW FLAPS” (mode 4) inhibited.
(To avoid nuisance in case of landing with flaps setting reduced).

LDG FLAP 3 ON : Flap mode is inhibited landing FLAPS 3

PACK FLOW selector
- Permits the selection of pack valve flow, according to the number of
passengers and ambient conditions (smoke removal, hot or wet conditions)
LO (80 %) – NORM (100 %) – HI (120 %)
- Manual selection is irrelevant in single pack operation, or with APU bleed
supply. In these cases, HI is automatically selected
- If LO is selected, the pack flow can be automatically selected up to 100 %
when the cooling demand cannot be satisfied.
HOT AIR pb
ON : The valve regulates hot air pressure.
PACK pb-sw
OFF : The valve closes, and the trim air valves

SMOKE LIGHT
- Both channels detect smoke, or
- One channel detects smoke and the other channel is faulty.

TEST PB DISCH AGENT 2 LIGHT


When pressed for at least 3 s, and until released:

DISCH LIGHT

When the FWD(AFT) SMOKE light comes on, the flight crew selects AGENT 1 with the corresponding DISCH sw. This action ignites the
corresponding squib on the fire bottle, which then discharges the extinguishing agent into that compartment. 60 min after the discharge of AGENT 1,
the DISCH AGENT 2 light comes on to indicate that the flight crew has to discharge AGENT 2 to maintain the required extinguisher concentration
in the cargo compartment. Bottle 1 discharges in approximately 60 s. A flow metering system controls the discharge of bottle 2 in approximately 90
min. This ensures sufficient agent concentration for 205 min.

ENG MAN START pb-sw
Off :
‐ Aborts the manual start sequence of the associated engine
‐ Stops the dry crank process of the associated engine

ON (in blue) : ENG N1 MODE pb-sw

ENG MASTER lever (Also called ENG MASTER sw.)

OFF : The FADEC: ENG 1(2) FAULT light


- Shuts down the associated engine, or - The position of the HP fuel shutoff valve is abnormal, or
- Aborts the start sequence of the associated engine - The automatic start sequence of the associated engine aborts, or
- There is a malfunction of the thrust control.

ENG MODE START selector

NORM : Normal mode of operation.

IGN/START :
- Initiate the automatic or manual start sequences, when the ENG MASTER lever is OFF, or
- Initiate the ignitors in flight.

CRANK :
- Initiate the dry crank, when the ENG MASTER lever is OFF and ENG MAN START is ON.
- Initiate the wet crank for maintenance, when the ENG MASTER lever, and the ENG MAN START are
ON.

LANDING GEAR INDICATOR PANEL

▿ : The gear is locked down.

This red arrow lights up if the landing gear is ACCU PRESS: Indicates the pressure in the yellow brake accumulator.
