 Automatic Fire Extinguisher

Need of Fire Extinguisher:

A fire extinguisher is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small
fires, often in emergency situations. As we are using a lithium-ion battery to power our kart
and a electrical motor to run it so that there will be a chances of fire due to overheating and
short circuit in wiring of battery and motor. So that we are placing a fire extinguisher to
handle this type of situations.
But the major Components of kart which is battery, motor and controller is at rear side of kart
and if the fire occurs during running time the driver does not able to handle it quickly so that,
we came up with new solution which developing an Automatic fire extinguisher.
Schematic of Automatic Fire Extinguisher:

Components used:
1) Solenoid Valve
A solenoid is an electromechanically operated device used to operate flow of gas or
fluids using an electrical supply.it consist a electromagnet, when current passes
through it will open and closes the valve simultaneously.

2) 5v Relay (With Driver circuit)

A relay module is an electrical switch that is operated by an electromagnet. The

electromagnet is activated by a separate low-power signal from a micro controller.
When electrical current is passed through a coil, it generates a magnetic field that in
turn activates the armature.

3) UV cell / Flame Detector

Ultraviolet (UV) light kills cells by damaging their DNA. The light initiates a reaction
between two molecules of thymine, one of the bases that make up DNA.
Working Principal:

Solenoid valve is a combinational Electrical and Mechanical Device used to control gas or
water flow electrically and generally it comes with electrical input range of +12 to +48volts.
For detecting fire an UV cell (Ultraviolet Cell) is used as a flame detector which gives an
output signal of +5volts so that, a relay is incorporated with circuit which enables to operate
a 12 V relay with 5volt output signal.
Whenever there is a fire detected by UV cell, it gives high signal to the output pin which is
connected with relay coil and turns on the relay simultaneously relay turn ON the Solenoid
Valve and operates the fire Extinguisher which extinguishes the fire.

 SOS Innovation

This system is implied so that driver can send a signal to team

members through a button (on kart) in case of any hazard.

Schematic diagram:
Equipment used
1. ARDUINO

Arduino is an open-source hardware and software company, project, and user

community that designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers and microcontroller
kits for building digital devices.

2. GSM SIM 800C MODULE

SIM800C is a complete Quad-band GSM/GPRS solution in a SMT type, which can be

embedded in the customer applications. SIM800C supports Quad-band
850/900/1800/1900MHz, it can transmit Voice, SMS and data information with low power
consumption.

3. EMERGENCY SWITCH (SOS)

The purpose of an emergency push SOS button that alerts the emergency contacts with
the click of a button.

4. LED Indicator

LED indicator lights are being used in panel mount indicator lights.

5. GSM/GPS Antenna

This GSM/GPS Antenna is designed for applications which require high positioning accuracy by
combining signals from GPS, GLONASS, GSM systems.

WORKING

 As soon as the driver presses the emergency button Arduino receives a

signal.

 Arduino Read the Inbuild Programming.

 Finally, it sends the SOS signal to mentioned number through GSM

module.

 As soon as message is sent, Arduino sends signal to transistor and LED

will blink.
