1. Make an analysis regarding the impact global migration on the life of the
interviewed OFW.

People leave their country for many reasons. My mother, Sonia J. Hiponia, decided to be an
Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and worked as a domestic helper in Hong Kong for 8 years to
sustain our family. Global migration caused both negative and positive impacts on her life. Being
a domestic helper is a tough job. At first, she had a difficulty in adjusting with her working
environment and coping with her boss. She also felt the feeling of homesickness and being guilty
for leaving my older brother when he was still a kid. But then, she ended up loving her job,
thought of the benefits of her job will bring to her loved ones, and brought home unforgettable
experiences. One of the practices that she gained and is applied at home until now is when she
cleans, no traces of dirt will be seen after it. She used to clean every corner of our home
thoroughly. Apart from it, because of her work, we were able to build our own house and since
my brother was the only child at that time, she was also able to sustain his education.
