NAME: PRANAVRAM V
SIGNAL INTEGRITY ANALYSIS IN COUPLED PCB TRACES

AIM:
• To observe and analyse the coupling mechanism in a coupled transmission line.
• Investigate the parameters that effect coupling.

APPARATUS REQUIRED:
PC with Ansys electronic desktop version 2021 installed.

HFSS MODEL:
DATE: 31/1/22 EXPERIMENT-3 ROLL NO: EVD19I030

RESULTS:
Varying length of trace:
Lt = 35mm

Lt = 70mm

Lt = 105mm
DATE: 31/1/22 EXPERIMENT-3 ROLL NO: EVD19I030
NAME: PRANAVRAM V
(i) E-field at solution frequency:
For lt = 35mm:
- E-field for 3m sphere = 0.39 V/m
- E-field for 10m sphere = 0.12 V/m
For lt = 70mm:
- E-field for 3m sphere = 0.30 V/m
- E-field for 10m sphere = 0.09 V/m
For lt = 105mm:
- E-field for 3m sphere = 0.41 V/m
- E-field for 10m sphere = 0.12 V/m
(ii)

Varying rise time for a sphere of 3m:

T = 100ns

T = 100ps

- With increase in trace length there is no change in the electric field strength.
- We also notice that the electric field strength is higher for the 3m sphere than
for the 10m sphere. This indicates that some changes have to be made to the
PCB in order to fix the issue.
- With decrease in rise time, there is an increase in the radiation being emitted.
- According to the FCC guidelines we will have to do electromagnetic
shielding.

CONCLUSION:
We have successfully created and simulated the model for the PCB coupled trace. We have
also produced and simulated the corresponding waveforms for the E-field strength vs trace
length and varying the rise time for the digital delay signal. The output waveforms have been
successfully verified.
