UGE1: Reading Comprehension

Examination 2

Elections are a moment when all politicians want to help the poor and hate corruption,
but there is still a way to prove their claims and appeals. The three Presidential candidates that I
chose is Bong Bong Marcos, Leni Robredo, and Manny Pacquiao. I chose them not for hatred.
All the information provided below is only based on the research.
On September 13, 1957, Bongbong Marcos was born, also known as Ferdinand
Romualdez Marcos Jr. and known by his initials BBM, is a Filipino politician who served as a
senator from 2010 to 2016. He served for more than 25 years in the government. His track record
demonstrates that he has consistently put politics aside to achieve what is best for the people. His
multiple spells in government have enabled him to carve out a place for himself in the
Philippines' illustrious political history. From 1998 to 2007, Bongbong was the Governor of
Ilocos Norte, where he served three terms in a row. Republic Act No. 9522, One of the
significant pieces of legislation he created during this period was the Philippine Archipelagic
Baselines Law. In 2010, Bongbong Marcos was elected to the Philippine Senate, coming in
seventh place overall. He is the current chair of the Senate Committees on Local Government
and Public Works. He aspired to offer the country a unifying leadership to restore a unifying type
of service that would bind our country. Let us unite and recover from the pandemic as a group;
let us rise from the ashes of the economy. Marcos Jr. just effectively disregarded the arbitral
ruling, claiming that we no longer have access to negotiation. He said that we have no choice but
to continue engaging the Chinese through bilateral agreements. He also stated that nations such
as the US and the Soviet Union should stay out of the issue, saying that the problem is between
China and us.
Maria Leonor "Leni" Gerona Robredo, the 14th and current Vice President of the
Philippines, is a decent, caring, sincere public servant. On April 23, 1965, she was born a
Filipino lawyer, politician, and social activist. Despite her office's minimal annual budget,
Robredo has been recognized for leading pandemic rescue operations that were rapid, effective,
and inclusive. She also engaged the support of the private sector to implement anti-poverty and
housing programs. She claimed that her work in the last five years on a limited budget, with no
help from the national government typically associated with good leaders, provided a preview of
what kind of leadership Filipino people could expect from her if she is elected president. She
wants to build a relationship with China based on respect and compliance with international
humanitarian law while also defending the West Philippine Sea arbitral court judgment.
Furthermore, she argues that the situation does not require escalation to the point of the war. She
does, however, want to deepen the country's relationships with allies and increase financing for
national defense.
A Filipino politician and professional boxer, Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao Sr, has been
a senator in the Philippines since 2016, and he was born on December 17, 1978. The 43 years
old, currently a senator in the Philippines, said he accepted his faction of the PDP-Laban political
party's candidacy at the party's national convention over the weekend. He was the first to enter
politics in 2010 when he was elected to represent Sarangani in the House of Representatives. He
stated that he is a fighter and will always be a fighter both inside and outside the ring, and also
said that the government must act with integrity, empathy, and honesty in serving the people.
Pacquiao is a devout evangelical Christian and a conservative, influencing his policy and
decision-making. To those who doubt his qualifications, the legendary boxer has stated that his
struggles will help him better comprehend people's suffering and fight poverty and corruption.
Senator Manny Pacquiao has said that if he is the next president of the Philippines, he will
organize a peace panel with China to discuss the West Philippine Sea territorial conflict. Last
year, he wrote to Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian requesting that Chinese militia vessels be
removed from the West Philippine Sea.
In conclusion, everyone can be a president, but not everyone is qualified for president.
Those three people who run for president have strong personalities even though they have many
bashers. However, they still decided not to be affected, especially since they ran for president
because they didn't want to ruin their image. Their objective to run is to have a better country
away from a corrupt government, but we still don't know what will happen in the future if one of
them is elected to be the next president. What we will do is to support whoever is the next
president of the Philippines. We need to be united to have a better country.
