2 Description of machine,
technical data

2.1 Description of machine

The mono-mix is a general purpose rendering machine
for all indoor and outdoor rendered finishes with grain
sizes up to 3 mm maximum.
The mixing and pumping units of the mono-mix are
driven by a common electric motor. The mixing unit
mixes the material to the desired consistency and then
pumps it out through an eccentric screw pump.
The mono-mix is automatically controlled during opera-
tion from the sprayer unit, through its control-cabinet,
the water fittings and the air valves. Operation can also
be controlled manually direct from the machine, for ex-
ample when starting up and for cleaning the mono-mix.

• Before each shift, machines must be inspected
visually by the operator for any visible defects.
During this inspection, special attention should be
paid to electrical conductors, plugs, couplings and
hoses for mortar and air.
• Machines must be subjected to testing by an ex-
pert for their fitness for use as required, but in any
case at least once a year.
• An expert should be taken to mean a person who,
by reason of his professional training and experi-
ence, has sufficient knowledge in the field of mor-
tar delivery and spraying machines and is suffi-
ciently well acquainted with the relevant govern-
ment regulations regarding safety at work, regula-
tions for the avoidance of accidents, guide-lines
and recognized technical rules, to be capable of
evaluating the fitness for use of the machine.
• The machine must be set up out of the danger
area of above-ground work sites, or the place of
operation of the machine must be shielded by a
protective roof against falling objects.
• The machine must stand firmly on a level surface
and be protected against unintended movements.
• The working areas round the control cabinetand
the pump unit must be kept freely accessible.
• The mains supply to the machine must in every
case be protected by an earth-leak circuit breaker
(for example in the building site main cabinet).
• In accordance with the regulations for the avoid-
ance of accidents of the trade unions, we recom-
mend the use of a pressure gauge for the mortar
hose. It enables the operator to check delivery
pressure in the mortar hose and serves for the
safety of personnel and the economic use of the
machine. A hose pressure manometer is included

with the prescribed mortar hoses having permissi-
ble pressure overload of 40 bar and a bursting
strength of 120 bar.
• The machine must not be lifted by a crane or other
handling equipment, for example to raise it to a
higher floor of a building or load it onto a truck.
• When the mono-mix is switched off using the air
valve on the sprayer unit, the machine is still ready
for operation and can be started again at any mo-
ment by actuating the air valve a second time. The
machine is ready for operation again. Indicator: the

nated.
• Delivery hoses must only be uncoupled when not
under pressure. This can be checked on the hose
pressure manometer. If there is still pressure re-
maining in the hoses, this must first be released,
e.g. by pumping backwards. For safety from any
material that might be ejected, cover couplings
when releasing them and wear safety goggles.
• For all maintenance operations on the machine,
pull out the mains supply plug. Even when the
machine is switched off, various parts still hold a
charge.

5 Operation
During all operations, the safety regulations regard-
ing mortar spraying machines must be strictly ob-
! served.
Before each shift, machines must be inspected visu-
ally by the operator for any visible defects.
During this inspection, special attention should be
paid to electrical conductors, plugs, couplings and
hoses for mortar and air.

5.1 Starting up
The water supply is connected through a 3/4" water
hose with GEKA coupling. The water hose is con-
nected to the labelled water connection on the ma-
chine.
The integrated water connection from the flow meter to
the mixing pipe can be adjusted depending on the
plaster material in use. For cement facings, the upper
GEKA connection on the mixing pipe should be used,
and for plaster facings, the lower one. The connection
which is not in use is sealed by means of a dummy
flange.
To ensure fault-free operation at low water pressures
(less than 2 bar), it is possible to connect an additional
booster pump.
If the water supply from the pipe is not sufficient, a
water tank can be installed near the machine. Water is
taken out of the tank by means of a hose (3/4") and a
water pump. Air must first be removed from the hose.

5.1.2 Establish electric power supply

The machine may only be connected to a supply in

conformity with regulations and provided with an earth-
leak circuit breaker
• Fuse protection required:
- 230 V motor of 2.2 kW, at least 16 A
• Cable and plug types
- 230 V supply: cable of cross-section 3x2.52, shok-
proof plug and EEC coupling, 16 A, 3-pole, 6h

5.1.3 Set direction of rotation of motor

Check correct direction of rotation of the motor.

• The direction of rotation can be seen from the fan
wheel; the right direction of rotation is indicated by
an arrow on the ventilator cowling.
• The direction of rotation is controlled by means of
the reversing switch. Position 1 = Forward, Posi-
tion 2 = Reverse.
• The solenoid valve opens only in position 1 = for-
ward. Water infeed can take place in this position
only.

5.1.4 Assembly of air and delivery hoses

For safety reasons, the machine may only be used

with the prescribed mortar hoses having permissi-
! ble pressure overload of 40 bar and a bursting
strength of 120 bar.
In accordance with the regulations for the avoid-
! ance of accidents of the trade unions, we recom-

Operation 31

sure in the mortar hose and serves for the safety of

personnel and the economic use of the machine. A
hose pressure manometer is included in delivery of !
the mono-mix.
Delivery hoses must only be uncoupled when not
under pressure.
In order to avoid applying needless loads to the ma-
chine and to reduce the rate of wear of the screw
pump, the length of mortar hoses used should be no
greater than necessary.
• Lay out air and delivery hoses of the desired length
in a straight line from the machine to the work site.
Couple mortar hose to pump end piece after hose
pressure manometer, and air hose to compressor.
• With NW25 mortar hoses, reducing adaptor V35/
V25 must be coupled in between.
• To enable mortar pressure to be checked in normal
operation and in the event of blockages, we rec-
ommend the use of a pressure gauge for the mor-
tar hose.
This also enables excessive wear of the eccentric
screw pump to be avoided.
• The sprayer unit used must be securely coupled to
mortar hose and air hose; for a table of the sprayer
units available, see chap 9.2.
For starting up the mono-mix, the air and mortar
valves of the sprayer unit must be open, since oth-
erwise the machine will be unable to start with the
compressor operating.

5.1.5 Moisten hoses with milk of lime

To avoid blockages, mortar hoses must be moistened

with slurry before use. For rendering and mortar, milk of
lime is recommended.
• Actuate water pre-fill button until head of screw
pump is covered
• Pour milk of lime into material hopper
• Switch on motor using ON/OFF switch and run un-
til milk of lime is pumped into mortar hose
5.1.6 Filling the machine

The machine is filled with bagged material. Before

use, the protective grating with bag ripper must be se-
curely mounted on hopper.
5.1.7 Adjusting consistency of material

• Water flow rate can be read off flowmeter; set to

approx. 600 l/h using pre-fill button and water con-
trol valve.
• Switch on compressor by pressing compressor
button
• Switch on machine with ON/OFF switch and set
the desired material consistency by means of the
water control valve
The mono-mix is now ready for use.

Operation 33

5.2 Operation of the mono-mix

The safety regulations concerning mortar spraying
machines must be strictly observed at all times. !
5.2.1 Pumping and spraying

Once the instructions in 5.1 have been followed, the

machine is already running; the dry material slips
down out of the hopper into the mixing tube. There it is
mixed and pumped through to the sprayer unit by the
screw pump. During this process, the whole apparatus
is automatically controll
When the mono-mix is switched off using the air
valve on the sprayer unit, the machine is still ready
for operation and can be started again at any mo- !
ment by actuating the air valve a second time. The
machine is ready for operation again. How to tell:
the white light of the ON/OFF push-button is illu-
minated.
5.2.2 Pauses

• For short pauses in operation, the machine is auto-

matically switched off by closing the air valve on
the sprayer unit.
• For pauses longer than 10 minutes, the apparatus
should be switched off using the ON/OFF switch.
For longer pauses, always bear in mind the setting
time of the mortar in the machine and the hoses.
• At high outdoor temperatures and for interruptions
of more than 30 minutes, the delivery hoses
should be run empty. The machine should then be
switched off using the ON/OFF switch.

5.3 Clearing blockages

Should a blockage occur, proceed as follows:
• Switch machine off using the ON/OFF switch
• Reverse the direction of rotation of motor using the
reversing switch
• Switch machine on again using the ON/OFF
switch and allow it to run backwards until pres-
sure in the mortar hoses is down to zero.
• Make sure that the mortar hoses are depressu-
rized
Delivery hoses must only be uncoupled when not
! under pressure. For safety from any material that
might be ejected, cover couplings when releasing
them and wear safety goggles.
• Release hose couplings
• Clean mortar hoses

5.4 Winter-time operation

The machine can be damaged by water freezing in-
side the water unit.
For this reason, when work is to be interrupted for
longer periods, and after cleaning, the water fittings of
the machine must always be completely emptied.
• Cut off water supply and uncouple feed hose and
empty it.
• Empty water hose joining water fittings and mix-
ing tube
• Open drain cock on water fittings
392603/001 - 09/2004

• The drain cock must be closed again before the

machine is restarted

6.1 Cleaning the mono-mix

• Run machine dry; to do this, open air and mortar
valves on sprayer unit and allow mixer motor to go
on running until nothing but water comes out of
the sprayer nozzle.
• Close air and mortar valves on sprayer unit
• Establish zero pressure in mortar hose; to do this:
- Reverse the direction of rotation of motor using
the reversing switch
- Switch machine on again using the ON/OFF
switch and allow it to run backwards until pres-
sure in the mortar hoses is down to zero
- Make sure that the mortar hoses are depressu-
rized
For all further operations, the main switch must be
set to position “0”; the machine will only be
switched on again briefly for certain specific opera-
!
tions.
Delivery hoses must only be uncoupled when not
under pressure. For safety from any material that
might be ejected, cover couplings when releasing !
them and wear safety goggles.

7 Service and maintenance

7.1 Maintaining the mono-mix

For all maintenance operations on the machine,
pull out the mains supply plug. Even when the ma-
! chine is switched off, various parts still hold a
charge.
m-tec mathis technik gmbh cannot accept any re-
sponsibility for damage caused by failure to follow
the instructions for maintenance and lubrication.
The following operations must be performed regularly:
• Before each shift, the machine must be inspected
visually by the operator for any visible defects, es-
pecially at hose and cable connections
• Clean remnants of rendering material from mixing
tube, material hopper and mixer shaft
• Clean compressor air-filter
• Clean filter of water fittings pressure reducer
• Clean water input feed filter
• The back-geared motors are delivered in opera-
tional condition and require no maintenance for
8,000 hours of operation. After this, the gears
must be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable flush-
ing oil and inspected. Oil quantity for gear system:
200 ccs.
As filling grease for the mixer motor we recommend
Esso S420 soft grease: filling capacity 330 cc.
Should this type of grease be unavailable, one of the lu-
bricants given in chap. 6.2 may be used.
