“Sustainable Airport Terminal Development for the Future”
1. Design Problem & Objective: A famous airport developer in India entered into their
third joint venture arrangement with a big developer-contractor in the Philippines. The first
joint venture was the Mactan International Airport Terminal and the second was the

The joint venture company was registered with SEC under the name GMR-
Megawide Joint Venture with the objective to expand the existing air transport
hub of the Philippines and its economy by increasing and improving the existing

2. Project Site Features: The existing old site of the Davao International Airport will
remain as is. Just like Mactan Airport Terminal 2, the new airport and other developments will be
beside the existing. You as the architect have to decide the location and the size of the new lot
and make sure that all the space requirements are taken care.
The façade design of the airport should reflect a distinct feature Mindanao culture or its
products in a modern way. It can non-linear forms and design-like of Zaha Hadid but in
a “Sustainable Design Manner”. It should certainly reflect Philippine culture, traditions
and products of Mindanao. The architect should make sure that the form should not look
like the Clark and Mactan International Airport which was already over copied. The
architect should make sure that the development is “instagramable”.
Make sure that the development is in compliance with all the Philippine Building Laws
including the laws that govern the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in terms of
the height of the structures.
3. Research Component: Aside from the usual drawing
requirements (floor plans, elevations, perspectives and sections) the
architect is required to submit a research component. Through research
from acceptable literature, the research paper should outline the
following:
