EXPERIMENT - 1

AIM :
To prepare Carbondioxide by reaction of Vinegar with Baking Soda.

MATERIALS REQUIRED :
M Test tubes/Glass Bottle M Baking soda powder
M Rubber balloons M Vinegar

PRECAUTIONS :
1. Pour sufficient amount of acid on the NaHCO3 to react properly.
2. Try to collect less concentrated Vinegar.

PROCEDURE :

1. Try to collect baking soda (NaHCO3) in test tube or glass bottle.

2. Also collect Vinegar in one of the test tube or glass bottle.
3. Now slowly add Vinegar drop by drop to NaHCO3.
4. Observe the reaction carefully.

OBSERVATIONS :
1. Colourless, Odour less gas is evolved with brisk effervescence. (in bubbles)
2. Collect above gas with the help of rubber baloon.

CHEMICAL REACTIONS :
Vinegar + Baking Soda → Carbon dioxide + Water + Sodium acetate

CONCLUSION :
The colourless, Odour less gas is CO2 gas
(This CO2 gas will turn lime water (Ca(OH)2) milky.
