Everyone experienced crisis because of what happened in our surroundings. As of our situation
nowadays, we are encountering different challenges or problems in our society just like the COVID-19
pandemic and the recent Typhoon Odette. Some went through different levels of struggles but still
fighting and keep doing in life. With all the things that happened, how are you?

It was two years ago when the Philippine government imposed lock down as the number of Covid 19
continuously rising that time. I really thought that it will just be a 1 to 2 weeks lockdown as the
Department of Health keep on saying on the news that everything is under control, but I am wrong. The
USJR immediately stop face to face classes as mandated by the government, hence onsite transaction of
different offices both basak and main campus were also stopped. The school didn’t stop to provide
educational services and decided move to online class, and online office transactions. My head was
bombarded that time with questions that are relevant on pursuing my dream. What if the school
scholarship center decide to remove me as READS since I will not be able to render onsite duty? Can I
afford the online class platform which requires gadgets, internet or mobile data connection? and etc. I
just prayed and hope for the best that time.

Moving forward, the school decided that all READS will become academic scholars, which means we can
still avail the benefit of studying for free without rendering duties, but the scholarship center imposed
more strict restriction with regards to cut-off grade. My heart is full of joy and I really felt how
compassionate the school towards us. Tuition fee is not a problem anymore, I decided to enrol with the
online class platform. I shared to my Aunt in Canada what happened and what are the necessary gadgets
needed to perform well in online class. Luckily my Aunt gave me a laptop for me to maintain good
performance in meeting the strict cut-off grade. The data connection in my area is not very good since I
am located in camp 7 Minglanilla, a mountain barangay. My Tatay tried to look a place where I can have
a good data connection, and yes we manage to find a place and build a ‘payag’, a small place with
roofing which is enough for me to attend online class. Everything goes well and I am still a scholar right
now.
Today, Cebu City drops curfew for adults and allow all establishments to open as Covid 19 cases is now
decreasing. The school offices are now rendering onsite transaction and I am also rendering onsite duty.
Typhoon Odette may put my plans for 2022 on hold but I am doing my best to continue them. Last
Saturday I already took exam to become a certified financial advisor and now waiting for the result. I am
doing good right now and feeling better than before, taking the advantage of having a laptop to make
some money for me to help my family fixed our house. And to end this first activity I will leave you this
beautiful quote from Francis Kong, “Nobody say it would be easy, I don’t. But it will be all worth it. And
yes, this is what I keep saying all the time”. This helps me a lot to keep on chasing my dream. Thank you
